D&D Monsters that look sci-fi

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
I’m looking for examples from D&D (any edition, any world) that are more sci-fi than fantasy. I want to create some sci-fi monsters, and I’m looking for an inspiration. If I look at an illustration, I can completely rewrite a creature (say, that thing looks like it should be telepathic and shoot electricity from its eyes) to my liking. The weirder-looking, the better.

What I don’t want to use are: furry humanoids (got plenty of those already, actually), fantasy staples (i.e., red dragons, unicorns, pixies, orcs, goblins), dinosaurs or any other animals that exist(ed) on earth, or creatures that are just a mixture of various animal parts.

Here are a couple of examples of the sort of thing I’m looking for:

The dharculus, from the Far Realm. That thing is just so damn weird-looking, it’s perfect. Of course, I wouldn’t have it having anything to do with the Astral Plane.

The tirapheg. Let’s face it, this thing sucks as a D&D monster. But, as a sci-fi monster, it’s perfect. It’s so bizarre looking that I’d just love to design something like that.

Oh, c'mon - Beholders are the king of sci-fi looking monsters. :)

Then again, Spelljammer's Zodar would come close as an Ancients-level artifact...

Beholders and all their kin. Talk about a race that's into bio-engineering! Especially some of the Spelljammer ones like the astereater.

Umber hulks.

Zaratans.

Zodars.

Doppleganger plants. (Ravenloft monster)

Anaxim abominations.

Golems of all sorts; also, colossi.

Lurkers and trappers (and for that matter, cloakers).

All sorts of plants.

Hope these spark some ideas for ya!

The Phase Mass that's in the CC3.

Displacer Beasts look like the Couerl (aka Black Destroyer) from the Journey of the Space Beagle.

Grells.
Githyanki, githzerai, and gith pirates. They look like costumed actors in a sci-fi serie, with their yellowish skin and bony/fleshy protrusions.

Oh, and Flumphs, of course.

Thri-Kreen is one that pops into my head.

Githyanki and Githzari (SP?) also.

Edit: Arrgh. Gez beat me to it.
