D&D Presentation from GAMA

The GAMA Tradeshow, which is the event run by the Game Manufacturer's Association in Las Vegas, is taking place right now. WotC was there, as were hundreds of other game producers, and put on a presentation. Note that most of this stuff is intended for the industry, not for consumers (who will find things at events like Gen Con geared towards them).

They covered 2014, the 5E launch ("Biggest Launch Ever"), and Tyranny of Dragons, and talked a little about the upcoming Elemental Evil storyline. They also spoke a little about licensed products from companies like WizKids and Gale Force 9. There's a slideshow gallery of the presentation at figures.com for those interested, but there's nothing really new there - though there's some cool art. They said that "Tyranny of Dragons Crits" and that sales were "Fantastic", with immediate reprints being required 7 days after launch.

Absolutely nothing about future plans or products? How underwhelming... maybe the guy who was supposed to handle the way-ahead portion of the presentation has jury duty?

Seriously though, I'm pretty disappointed that nothing came out of this except what they have already done. Really makes you wonder about what's going on at WotC.

GAMA's never been a place where they announce things. Even when WotC did annouce a D&D stuff in advance, it wasn't at GAMA.

And they did talk about forthcoming products. Much of the Elemenral Evil stuff is still upcoming; thus was their chance to show off the board game, minis, and adventure. After all, we haven't even really seem Princes of the Apocalypse previews online yet.

It's true that the EE stuff is still in the future but I was expecting a little more than them just talking about things coming out next month. Oh well, maybe this summer we'll learn more...

It is. Night Below is one. Gary Gygax, in an interview with the Oerth Journal, also says that Tharizdun is multi-planar.

Tharizdun made his first appearance in the Realms during one of the 4E Encounters seasons (and the Abyssal Plague series of books).

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply! The cries of "Realms, not Greyhawk?" had been bugging me a little. Sure, we all want our favorite setting repped in 5e and this is a missed opportunity in that sense, but PotA is not a "chuck lore out the window" move by WotC. Even if the lore hadn't been established before, they could say "frustrated by his efforts on Oerth, he turns to Faerun." and it would instantly be a done deal b/c they calls the shots on the lore.

I've been reading some of your old school reviews, interesting stuff. Keep 'em coming.

Good rule of thumb... don't "expect" WotC to reveal anything at any specific points. Always assume they will reveal something when they're ready to reveal something... not when there seems to be an event that would "make sense" to us to do so.
