. Overhead a dragon sweeps by with a powerful rider on his back.

Dude, you should totally have some schlep in platemail riding the Fireking at all times, a poor guy with 'target' written all over him. You know the enemy will attack him, thinking he is the PC. Could save you a few nasty spells, elf archer hits.
I did this to PCs in a Campaign I ran...hehehe.

It seems that 3.5 (which I'll admit I'm not as familiar with as 3.0, but players voted to use it and there's the SRD right there...) no longer has a "Scry" skill... it's all handled via will saves now, it appears.

Edit: Ah! No, just found more on the subject. Wish they'd included this with the scry spell itself, instead of squirreling it away under "Schools of Magic"... feh.

Scrying: A scrying spell creates an invisible magical sensor that sends you information. Unless noted otherwise, the sensor has the same powers of sensory acuity that you possess. This level of acuity includes any spells or effects that target you, but not spells or effects that emanate from you. However, the sensor is treated as a separate, independent sensory organ of yours, and thus it functions normally even if you have been blinded, deafened, or otherwise suffered sensory impairment. Any creature with an Intelligence score of 12 or higher can notice the sensor by making a DC 20 Intelligence check. The sensor can be dispelled as if it were an active spell.

Lead sheeting or magical protection blocks a scrying spell, and you sense that the spell is so blocked.
So no scry skill now... just pure intellegence.

Alright that's what I was hoping for. Sounds like it will let me take full advantage of my keen senses, Blindsight, Darkvision, and high spot bonuses.

Because I'm feeling lazy I won't edit my IC post to take advantage of this right now but I will definately keep it in mind in the future.

Yes! That will make us way more dangerous. Where is it? do you have the telepathic bond?

Fieri how long does it take to scry a new position from the pool. Does it take an hour to prepare or can I change sights at will. What about From the mirror of mental prowess? Can I fit through the mirror of mental prowess?

Mirror of Mental Prowess is 5' by 2'. There is NO WAY a Large Dragon is fitting past the frame without polymorph or change self or something like that.

The Pool discription just says "This shallow pool forms a reflective surphace in which the user can scry on others. This works just like the standard scrying spell." As such, yes... it takes an hour to refocus. I'm not setting it any limit to uses per day, or duration of viewing though.

It can also usually dispel scrying done on it if you try to use it as such. However, that isn't unfailable, as you just saw.

So how much would it cost to modify the Pool so it becomes a Pool of Mental Prowess? The other option I suppose is I could polymorph the Dragon...
