D&D Wargaming *ARMIES OF EVIL*

The FireKing rested in his lair, ~soon~ he thought, ~the hunt begins soon~

The FireKing was unusual for a dragon, mere decades old, he was considered still a child by his race. Despite that, he had become one of the generals for the dreaded Lich King.

He had managed that by having one thing other dragons lacked. Or rather, by lacking one thing other dragons had, Vanity. The FireKing was more than willing to work with the weaker races, to obey the orders of otherm stronger, creatures. He had proven himself and had been rewarded for it with powerful magic and an army to call his own.

The FireKing walked out of his layer, ignoring the kobold slaves scurrying away. He reached the entrance and took to the air. Easily outpacing his mephit army he soared over the mountains, watching for any forces of good foolish enough to tread on his domain.

~The hunt begins soon and when it does, you will all die.~

ooc. I finally found where it said that monsters get to use their treasure to buy equipment. But now I see I don't need it. Would it be possible to get a reduction of The Fireking's cr in exchange for not having treasure? If so, how much? Even .9cr would be enough to raise The FireKing one age group :) .

UK's doc figures a creatures listed equipment into it's CR but makes no mention of it's treasure. I must've missed it if Fieari said creatures get their treasure.

A CR15 dragons expected treasure hoard is valued at 66k gp, which is pretty significant given we're allocated 250k per army.

Fieari?

I completely forgot to square the points for mephits cost :o I'll fix that in a second.

actually my touch AC should be 24 by my count. 10 base, -1 size, +2 dex,+5 deflection, +8 armor =24
The armor is from bracers of armor which, i think, also work against touch attacks. Could someone else confirm or deny this?

I'll fix up all pointed out mistakes. (This is what happens when you try to master a new game in a couple of hours)

The Bracers only work against Incorporeal touch attacks (i.e. from wraiths & spectres). They're ineffective against standard touch attacks.

Against most creatures your Touch AC is 16.

1) Monsters who are intellegent and have a treasure rating can use their treasure, as this is part of their CR. However, this treasure is THEIR treasure... you can't pool it.

pg 6 of the ooc thread.

I fixed the AC mistake. So a master thrower can do 123 points of damage in 2 rounds. With a very angry dragon bearing down on him. and a level 18 druid watching out for his ally.

Tonguez, we need to consider some tactics for our combined might.
I figure a level 18 druid with 250k in equipment wouldn't mind getting up close and personal, let me use those 6 attacks a round :) . But if you have a good stratagy that involves keeping out of range I can do that to. And what kind of spells do you prefer using; buffs, offensive, summoning, area alteration?

How do you plan on using your troops? I plan on using my Kobolds as border gaurds with 1/4 of my mephits as scouts and messengers. The rest will come with me additional attack units. My primary targets are spellcasters/archers/crossbowmen in that order. The rank and file are just food without ranged weapons.

Also I don't have much experience with wargaming/roleplaying so if you do, feel free to take the lead.

You're way over your CR.

Yng Red Dragon CR15^2 = 225pts
Air Mephit CR3^2 = 9pts. 9pts x 248 = 2232pts.
Total: 2457

Try this instead:
Young Red Dragon CR15^2 = 225pts.
80x Air Mephit CR3^2 = 9pts x 80 = 720pts.
125x Kobold Slaves CR.66^2 = .44pts x 125 = 55pts.
Total: 1000

The kobold slaves only need to be figured if they are going to be combatants - Fieari has already said we get commoner slaves for free (as long as they REMAIN FLAVOUR)

Anyway back to me

I must admit that I have absolutely no idea how the baseline rules work:( and so come to you for help

Okay by nixing the Eagle I now have 906.05 points spent and a Spare 93.95 left over

if I go for the Raven idea (which I am considering) 75 points gets me a swarm of 3750 ravens - which I say is pretty good cover for anyone! (plus it fits the theme)

Anyway does having 3750 Ravens meet the requirements of the Baseline rules?

Of course if anyone can think of a better use of my 93.95 points I'm open to suggestions.

Oh I've also just remembered that I still haven't figured my Animal Companion(s) and all those summoned beasties too so keep them in mind as we go to war - I may even drop my militai (100 War1) and use the points on something bigger (maybe something to get us a fear effect or two - panick the enemy troops, get them entangled and they're done for)

He doesn't need them as combatants, he needs to pay for their CR because he needs 225 support units to support his CR 15 dragon. (and, now that I notice it that actually leaves him 20 units short)

Drak, you need to down-convert at least two mephits into additional kobolds to meet your support requirements.

I took a look at your block on page 1. It looks like you're fine for support as support cascades upward. Here's what I've got...

Code:
  1x Druid Lv18 ->  14.40 =           207.36

  2x Bards Lv10 ->   8.00 =  64.00  = 128.00

 10x WWolf Rgr3 ->   5.03 =  25.30  = 253.00

 50x Bbn2       ->   1.60 =   2.56  = 128.00

 25x Monk Lv2   ->   1.60 =   2.56  =  64.00

 20x Pixie      ->   1.75 =   3.06  =  61.25

100x Warriors1 - >   0.66 =   0.44  =  44.00

Total:                                885.61

Under the CR above none of the troops are equipped.

Technically, as your wwolf rgr's are over 5 CR they require support, but since you still have 114 CR left over you should be ok.

You had an extra .2 CR listed for your rangers. Where'd it come from?

Allright, I'll try and fix up my numbers some more.

And these kobolds aren't slaves, they're warrior slaves. (I was never planning on using them in battle, rather they would be guards and cannon fodder, I'll have to see about equipment though.)

A Dragon, while having a large hoard, is nearly as dangerous with nothing as with armor and all kinds of other things.

According to the Draconomicon (which I'm using), a large dragon needs at least 50,000 coins to create his or her bed, and I'd imagine you'd be downright despondant without it. You need a hoard to be a dragon.

For the remaining 16k, may I reccomend lair wards? Lesser Sigils of Suppression cost 14k, and block all 3rd level spells and lower within your cavern without removing your own supernatural abilities. Or, a Pool of Scrying costs 7,500 gp and acts as a permanent scrying spell. Inscriptions of Privacy, on the other hand, cost 14k prevent anyone from scrying your lair and alerts you if anyone tries (they glow when active).

There are all kinds of nice lair protection things you can use. Or, you can just keep it all as gold. Lowering your hoard will not decrease your CR, not for a dragon.
