D&Disms That Make You Go "Huh?"

The lack of spells that would be usable in daily life.

The 1st edition Unearthed Arcana's section on Cantrips was full of them

Why anyone would like gnomes. Or flumps.

Watch it. Them's fightin' words!

Dwarve females with beards - where'd that come from? Where's the art of it? I find it intriguing.

The original legends about Dwarfs stated that they didn't have any females at all (unlike Gnomes). Tolkien took that up and explained it by saying that in reality Dwarven women were mistaken for men because they were bearded.

Dungeons never have bathrooms. Or outhouses.

I always put a horrible, stinking latrine in dungeons inhabited by humanoids. Its a perfect excuse for me to indulge in some juvenile scatological humor.

This one doesn't make me go "Huh" so much as "Awww": Cleric as bandaid box. I can't think of any other game system that basically has one class or one character devoted to "Fix me!"

That's gotten worse as editions went on. The original Cleric was much more of a holy warrior (think the Knights Templar, or medieval clergymen who owed military service as part of their feudal obligations).

I have a Gnome Beguiler who's almost every stereotype you can think of... childishly naive, optimistic and cheerful, frivolous and impulsive, mischevious and pranking, mad scientist sort of tinkerer... and not only is she by far the most fun character I've played, but the rest of my group thinks she's lovably adorable.

Depends on whether you're the serious type or the light-hearted type, I guess. :)

Peace & Luv, Liz

I use it online. I'd be more concerned about it cheapening identity of Githyanki if I ever heard it offline, which I don't. As it is, in the face of WotC reimagining succubi as devils and eladrin as grey-elves-in-all-but-name, the cheapening of classic creatures achieved by means of casual borrowing of a term seems rather pale by way of comparison.

Tru dat.

Huh? In 1E (AD&D) ...elves could easily be Fighter/Magic-Users, or even Fighter/Magic-User/Thieves for the matter. :D

I think he's talking Original D&D, from 1974 -- Elves started out as either Magic-users or Fighters at the start of the adventure, and stayed that way until the next adventure, where they could choose the other class instead. Yes, in 1974 Elves had Multiple Personality Disorder. :)

Pixelbitching
A style of GMing--specifically, a form of railroading--in which the players need to find one specific clue in order to advance on the one plotline determined by the GM, cannot proceed without it, and do not get any help from the GM in finding it. If said clue is particularly hard to find (or if the GM requires a very specific action to locate it), the GM may be said to be "pixelbitching".
Origin: Computer games, specifically point-and-click games in which you need to click a specific place--sometimes only a few pixels on the screen (hence the name)--in order to get some magic clue you need to advance in the programmed-in plotline. Coined by SteveD on RPG.net.

How 'bout "cheesewax?" Anyone know what that terms means? If I had to guess, I'd venture something along the lines of "de-cheesing" a cheesed-up min/maxed PC, ie: stripping a PC of its more powerful abilities.

...as compared to de-Christmas treeing, of course. :D

One of the latest D&D words that a lot of people are using and think is "witty" is badwrongfun.

It's bad, wrong, and retarded for grown men to utter such a lame word. It also seems like people are jumping at the chance to get to use that word in a D&D thread...which is even more creepy.

I don't know how many times I've seen a post consist of only the sentence, "Sounds like you're accusing him of badwrongfun". Are people really itching that much for the chance to use that word?

Now I know darn well that that same person would never have wasted his time posting only the sentence, "Sounds like you're accusing him of playing D&D wrong" if the word badwrongfun didn't exist :p

Another one, not so much a D&Dism is: You win this thread!

That also makes me go, "huh?" Ok, it was dumb the first 100 times we had to read it on a forum. Reading that again and again doesn't make it any funnier. What we really won is a life since apparently few of us seem to have one :p
