D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

(OOC: Zaeryl is going to ready an action to turn them into shard-filled mincemeat if they say anything threatening or obstinate or anything that will lead to alerting their main force (examples include "No, we're taking this back and reporting to HQ" "We can't allow you to find our secret demon ring" "No, you can't pass here" and even "We have to ask our commander"--followed by turning around to go ask the commander) )

(OOC: Swarm of Crystals for 4d4 damage in a cone, no attack roll, no save, just damage. More-or-less guaranteed not to kill outright in case someone feels they have to stabilise the soldiers, but moderately likely to take out a War1)

Michael rolls his eyes at Zaeryl's comment.
"You know, it's amazing how poorly diplomacy works when the diplomats look like they're begging for an excuse to kill the other side. Please leave killing as a last resort today: I think Sela's power may suffice to keep them peaceful."
Michael dips his head under a tree branch.

(OOC: Michael is going to try to get within hailing distance of the guards, then invoke the Calm Emotions power centered on them. I believe he can maintain concentration on it while he talks: talking does not force a Concentration check when casting a spell, so I don't think it does when you concentrate to sustain it. Please let me know if I'm wrong about this.
If hailing distance is within 20 feet, Michael will try to catch the party and soldiers in the Calm Emotions AOE together. Hulgyr flies off the handle awfully quickly and Zaeryl's just sounding determined to be stupid.)

(Calm Emotions Save DC is 10 (base)+2 (spell level) +1 (Cha bonus) Please advise if I need an initiative.)

ooc: The conditions I quoted above are extremely broad... make Ironwolf roll initiative. :)

Of course, if it seems a little intimidation might help, I might go 10' tall just for effect. ;)

Enough. Ratchet back to post 495, and everyone roll initiative. Then we'll resolve stuff in initiative order.

Redux: All 6 of you are 50' away from three soldiers, who are on the opposite side of a road (if it can be called that) from you. You have 30' of sparse woods to go through, then 20' of clearing. If you go any closer than the 50' you are now at, you may be spotted (the woods aren't that dense). If you step out of the woods 20' from the soldiers, they would have to be pretty dim not to notice you. Roll and report!
