D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

The Stonepike Mountains

Round 6 Retcon[sblock=Hulgyr, Michael, Ironwolf: ]OoC: No changes for you guys. Proceed to Round 7.

- Hulgyr threatened unpleasantness and got ready to tackle the soldier.
- Michael told the soldier to just drop it.
- The soldier started to run but Hulgyr gave him a great big hug.
- Ironwolf declared a group hug and hugged the soldier until he decided to take a nap.
- Someone in the woods said, "Ow!"[/sblock][sblock=Zaeryl, Eternity, Almayce: ] Zaeryl said the soldiers didn't play well with others and got ready to blast them.
- One of the soldiers in the clearing said he didn't like playing this game.
- When one of his buddies said the others weren't playing nice, one of the soldiers blew his horn.
- Another soldier said, "Gimme all your toys!"
- Eternity started to light a soldier on fire.
- Another soldier started to throw things at Eternity.
- Zaeryl played a mean trick on that soldier

Private Squatter cried out in pain as thousands of tiny crystals ripped his flesh. He glowered at Zaeryl, malice aforethought, but as a well-disciplined and loyal trooper of Fallon, he chucked his shortspear not at Zaeryl, but at Eternity, who was threatening his comrade. Unfortunately for him, Eternity ducked the throw with an elegant twist of her body, her concentration unaffected. A beam of fire sprang from her body and shot toward Private Stander.

OoC: And this is the part where I realize that an attack roll of 11 won't hit AC12 but a ranged touch attack will hit AC10...

Still flame rather than electricity per Erekose13's instructions. And am I the only one who thinks it strange that the to-hit probability of a ranged touch attack is affected by the type of armor that the target is wearing?

Doh! And I just realized that I did roll both attack and damage for Eternity instead of just the damage like I thought, and with my attack roll, armor is pretty moot (adjusted to hit of 21...) Erekose13, I don't know if you consider a roll of 11 to be "wasted" or not. :)

- Eternity was careless with fire and a soldier got his fingers burned.

The blazing gout of flame struck Private Stander, and with an agonizing cry he crumpled and lay still on the forest floor, his horn still in his hand.

Almayce ordered Private Squatter to Halt!, and he momentarily froze in place, his vision clouded over. The trooper shook his head, and when his eyes reopened, they were not only clear, but colored with both fear and anger.

- Almayce tried to make a soldier stop, but the soldier decided Almayce couldn't make him.

Summary: Private Squatter is badly hurt, but standing and free to act. Private Stander is down and not moving.

(OOC:  I'm so sorry that I keep correcting so many times :o By the way, if we want to have E13's roll not be wasted, we can use it for Zaeryl's attack against Squatter this round, 1d6 damage ranged touch attack (Crystal Shard) for 1 PP. That's his action (he backs up to not provoke and shoots point blank at Squatter to take him down--let me know if you'd rather I roll it instead (Z's at +2 to hit instead of Eternity's +1, but 11 hits anyway))

OoC: No, no problem, there are a lot of things to keep track of here. The biggest thing for me is learning all the powers, feats, attack modes and spells of 6 characters all at once. For example, I got confused because Eternity is listed as a level 1 character, but the character sheet says level 2 in places, and she was burning 3 pp on the same power. So, I rolled attack and damage for 2 pp and went off trying to figure out if she'd been promoted to 3rd someplace that I wasn't aware of, and then I figured out she had overchannel. Then I realized that she'd just triggered Squatter's readied action, then I realized that he'd move to bring her into his range increment, and rather than take the cheesy path of moving him so that he wouldn't provoke Zaeryl's action, I moved him as if he had no clue what Zaeryl could really do (which he didn't). Then I resolved Zaeryl's action (incorrectly, since I had figured Squatters HP incorrectly), and somewhere along the way I remembered that I needed to figure out what Eternity's overchannel damage was (simple matter of just adding it to the damage I'd already rolled). But in doing that I forgot that I'd already rolled her attack, so I asked E13 to do that (and waited like a doofus for him to roll when I already had the result). So, when I forgot that Energy Ray was ranged touch, I promptly forgot all about my damage rolls for Eternity and adding the overchannel damage, since "the ray missed, right?" And when you reminded me that the AC was wrong for a touch attack, I went to look up the damage I had already rolled for Eternity and realized that she had already handily hit. And amazingly, the overchannel damage did matter, so it was a good thing that all got rolled...and recorded.

Mmmm, well that strikes me as well grounded in cheese, so no, why don't you roll your own attacks? I think if we get to borrowing dice rolls and letting people roll each other's attacks, I'm just going to get confused again and incorrectly use the attack you roll for E13's character as the attack roll for Xael's character instead of correctly using the roll that E13 made for Almayce. Or some silly mistake like that.

Um, and about your stated action. How can you back up to not provoke an AoO by Private Squatter? I appreciate you don't want to provoke an AoO by manifesting and are looking for a good way to avoid that, but doesn't backing out of the square that you're in provoke an AoO anyway? Or are you counting on him not having a weapon in hand, since you're before him in the initiative order?

(OOC: I think IC decided to taunt Z with a miss for full damage. Yes, he can back up--a 5 foot step never provokes. It's what casters always do  By the way, he has a move action left, so he afterwards he readies his shield, bringing AC up to 17)

Eh?

I'm so used to always phrasing it as "XXX takes a 5' step to..." that nothing else registers as a 5' step, even if the specified movement is exactly one square.

(ooc: apologies El Jefe, I think that Eternity's level up must have been lost in the crash back in May. I thought I had corrected that, but apparently not. I will make all changes to get her back up to 2nd level ASAP and run it through nimisgod and KO again just to make sure. Re: my attack roll that was not used. just scrap it. I'll roll for future rounds as required.)

[/sblock]Round 7

OoC: Much as I hate to do this, I'm going to have to slow down round 7 just a little bit.[sblock=Michael, Hulgyr, Ironwolf: ]- Michael shouted instructions and ran for the woods.
[sblock=Michael: ]Sigh. You did have to double move, didn't you? Ok, at the end of the first move action, this is what Michael sees. He's coming in from the right, and the yellow T is a downed soldier.
Code:
........M
[COLOR=Yellow]T[/COLOR].....E..
...Z..A..
...Q.....
.........
Q is the other soldier
M is Michael
E is Eternity
Z is Zaeryl
A is Almayce.
The top of the map is toward Duvik, the bottom Kinthriver (given some zigs and zags).

Ok, no big deal here, just tell me where go with the 20' of movement you get from the second move action. Not moving is an option, if you want to take it.[/sblock]OoC: Hulgyr, Ironwolf, your actions as described are still good (I think), I just want to figure out where Michael goes before I figure out where your characters go.

Hulgyr 10
Ironwolf 8[/sblock][sblock=Zaeryl, Eternity, Almayce: ]OoC: I need to figure out what's going on with the other group, since some of them may end up with you in the woods. Here's the map midway through Michael's movement:
Code:
........M
[COLOR=Yellow]T[/COLOR].....E..
...Z..A..
...Q.....
.........
I think you can all figure out which one is Michael. He has a sap in hand, and is approaching from the right (which is where the path is, and where you all just came from a round or two earlier). Let's stick with your stated actions for now, I'll give you an opportunity to change them if Michael or the others ruin your plans.

Zaeryl 8
Private Squatter 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1[/sblock]Michael 10
Hulgyr 10
Ironwolf 8
Zaeryl 8
Private Squatter 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

If there's a possibility the downed soldier can be stabilized and saved, Michael will move towards him and prepare to do so.
If he looks unsaveable...like, headless or with a hole blown through his chest...Michael will move around past Almayce and start trying to set up a flank.

How many actions does Hulyr have to move into the woods?
The only thing he does different from Micheal is grabbing the bag with the crystal, but does that consume an action?

b.t.w. Hulgyr is a fast legged barbarian, so he moves 40'
