d20 Modern Dark*Matter hardcover from WotC?!?

Damn! I've never really been that interested in d20 Modern, but a DarkMatter HC will almost force me to buy it. It was literally the only reason I ever bought the Alternity books. I read through the setting book in the LGS, and had to have it. If it's gonna be updated to d20, I'm gettin' it.

Regards,
Darrell

Sounds like Dark Matter is more "Men in Black" than it is X-Files (although I guess you could say they are pretty much the same, though one tries to be a comedy and the other more serious).

You could comfortably fit both settings into Dark Matter. Pretty much any conspiracy theory/based fictional setting will fit into Dark Matter. You would have to change the Greys if you wanted to use X-Files, however.

The is the best news I've heard since WotC announced they got the Star Wars lisence! Bring on Dark Matter! It was the only successful Alternity campaign I ran. It was a blast!

It's strange to me that Amazon touts, what, a September release date, yet I've seen no mention of this product in WOTC's release schedule. Did I miss something? Is WOTC pulling a fast one on us? Or does Amazon just have some bogus information? Anyone know for sure?
It is strange, even when I was given the answer to your questions above. It is policy that publishers are to notify Amazon.com of new book release well in advance (6-9 months ahead), if they want Amazon.com to be their online bookseller. For some reasons, it's okay for Amazon.com to release information to their consumers well before the book's publisher make a press release statement.

IMNSHO, that's way too much power for Amazon.com.

No, but if they are publishing a Dark*Matter campaign setting for d20 Modern, it means they have changed their mind about refusing to reprint the Alternity settings. If it sells, it'll also prove that there is a market for specific campaign settings for Modern/Future.
But won't this widen the rift between WotC and the Alternity fan community? So far, they've been pretty resistent about having their fondest settings being mechanized for d20 Modern ruleset, and hope to see Alternity returns.

Given that Monte seems to have been pretty busy the last two years working on Ptolus (note that pretty much all things coming from Malhavoc in that time has been written by freelancers), I doubt that he made any work on this specific book. However, if they are releasing a d20M version of DarkMatter, I would expect him and Wolfgang Baur to get credit since they wrote the original.
Monte said he isn't working a d20 version of Dark*Matter, either (he posted an answer to a question on his ezboard), so that would be my guess, too. Baur and Cook will be credited, but neither are directly involved in the d20 conversion.

That was a pretty slim hope even before this announcement. Plus the total number of Alternity fans who won't buy d20 Modern material has to be pretty small.

I don't know. I mean, obviously the Alternity fans would like to see continued support for the system, or at least having it let loose so they can support it themselves, but I bet they'd also love to have new information about their favorite campaign settings, however they can get it.

Um, last I checked September is only four months away. And see this thread in General for D&D releases through the end of the year:

I don't think there is anything weird about this at all. In fact, because of the thread above, I did a search for d20 Modern at WotC to get a sneak peak at what's in the pipeline after Spectaculars.
