d20 Modern Dark*Matter hardcover from WotC?!?

Both Baur and Cook said they aren't in on it. Amazon jumped the gun, and has decidedly incomplete information. I'm sure they have the date wrong, too.
Since when did Amazon.com suddenly delves into psychic premonition? Now they're anticipating future book release without contacting alleged publishers?

Amazon jumped the gun on other products, like Complete Psionics. I don't think they've been largely wrong (eg title, existence) before. Its seems to me WotC gets slightly annoyed every time this happens, however, probably because Amazon never gets the date wrong. (Maybe they got the authors wrong before, too, but I don't know for sure).

Who could we ask at WotC for confirmation? Custserv won't know.

I got a chance to look at the WotC September--December 2006 catalog today.

The book doesn't show up in the main catalog . . . but it is in the d20 Modern product list at the back. Therefore, it either

a) was planned but got cancelled or rescheduled at the very last minute (this has been known to happen in at least one or two other case--the jumping-back and forth on whether the DL novel Amber and Iron was going to release first in hardback or MMPB, and possibly the Star Wars supplement Ultimate Battlestations).

b) the more likely--a printing error replacing the catalog sheet for it with the sheet for Three Dragon Ante, which gets reprinted in just about the spot that d20 D*M would be.

I know. It's their STOOPID policy that publishers must give THEM advance notices of future book releases. Unfortunately, publishers can't put Amazon.com on a gag order.

Hmm. Is it mere coincidence that d20 Spectaculars is being cancelled and d20 Dark*Matter is added to the lineup at the last-minute?

Actually, if d20 Spectaculars is cancelled, I'd view it more likely that the whole d20 Modern line has been killed, WotC stuck the 3DA page into the catalog at the last minute to avoid having to repaginate the entire thing, and the items on Amazon and in the backlist of the catalog are just phantoms.

Anyone with the catalog want to tell us if the Three Dragon Ante page is at all an update from last year's? Does it say "Available Now", for example?

That said, if either product has been cancelled, or both, I'd expect them to show up as PDF downloads. It's a way for WotC to recoup some of their investment, and they've done it before for dead or suspended lines. (They didn't do it for Star Wars, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.)

Maybe WOTC decided that the genre was covered by Mutants and Masterminds and that fans wanted a D20 Modern Dark Matter book more??

Or *maybe* since D20 modern as I've heard is the basis for 4e so they've cancelled the line to start developing 4e stuff :D

Mike, you're evil!

Seems like we're just hip deep in speculation here.

I thought the Dark*Matter minigame in d20 Modern had some nice advanced / prestige classes. Hope those are carried over.

REG, I wonder the same thing...d20 Spectaculars and Dark*Matter...what does it mean? A new direction in the line? If so, what is that new direction, exactly?
