You're being too polite...the new Gamma World is simply dreadful. :(

I'm sorry to hear that. I loved the original. Nothing like radioactive, telepathic koalas to brighten your day :)

Did they try to make it serious or something?

I've heard that Blood and Space is a good supplement with some nice sci-fi stuff in it, though I dont personally own it. I do own other "Blood and..." products and they have all been top notch.

They did, but that's the least of the problems. Shoddy design, poor layout, dreadful editing, clunky, unbalanced mechanics...it's a mess on all levels. Check rpg.net for reviews.

Not sure I agree. GW's problems certainly SHOULD have been helped given the amount of resources given to it. There is absolutely no excuse for it being as problematic as it is.
Even with the resources, trying to make a 3e/d20 version of the game AND still retain the feel of past GW games can be a heavy task.

I mean it is like Peter Jackson trying to adapt Tolkien's trilogy into a series of films.

At least DW doesn't have a history. It is just another game product of post-apocalyptic genre.

I was shopping around myself and i came across Fading Suns. Is this a decent system and what kind of science fiction does it promote?

Well, they might have started by (1) Hiring someone to proof-read the finished manuscript, and (2) Learning the D20 Modern mechanics, and (3) Having someone who wasn't friggin' color-blind design the page layout of the books.

Sorry, still fuming over the money I wasted on the Player's Handbook and Machines & Mutants. Man, those books were crap.

:(

I own all of Fading Suns' D20 products. I find it to be a fantastic system and setting. What type of sci-fi? Fading Suns is very Space Opera in many respects. It would take a great deal more to detail its unique aspects, and there are enough of them to distinguish it. As a rule set, it has a good deal of resemblance to D20 (not D20 Modern), but with entirely new and unique rules for magic, rituals, and psionics.

I also own the Darwin's World. I have the edition that is updated for D20 Modern. FYI, it has a good number of quotes from the Fallout CRPG in the generic post-apoc rules section. So, yeah, the Darwin's World Second Edition is VERY good for a rules set to emulate the Fallout setting.
