D20 SF campaign

Of course, if you had like the mini-game and encourage Jonathan Tweet to supply more support material that will eventually become a best-seller, Wizards may have decided not to license out the brand and instead do a d20 version of Gamma World themselves, kinda like when Ed Greenwood supplied articles after articles of Forgotten Realms in the old Dragon magazine, which was then bought by TSR.

Except that Wizards already owned the Gamma World ISP. They licensed it out because, even if it had been eagerly embraced by the old GW grognards, it wouldn't have sold enough to justify the overhead of developing the d20 version. Gamma World is just not that popular in terms of the scale at which Wizards operates. If the objective is to drive sales of the d20 Modern corebook, better to let a smaller publisher like S&S take the risk. From Wizards' POV, anyway (not saying I agree with it).

I am gearing up for a SF campaign in the future and am wondering what resources are out there. I know D20 Future is coming, and Star Wars, while a nice system, is not the SF I want. So what setting/systems are there for a SF campaign using the D20 rules?

For just systems, check out GR's Psychic's Handbook. Good mental powers, despite typoes in the PrCs and AdC.

Agreed. It's a cute game, definitely a good beer n' pretzels game, but hardly a true successor to the Gamma World of old.

Go re-read your 1st or 2nd Ed Gamma World books. :)

I would also recommend the d20 minigame from polyhedron called Mecha Crusade. Good rules for a variety of Mecha, with a very customisabe system. If you aren't looking for Mecha, Omega World is very good post apoctalyptic stuff.

Actually -- not to hijack the thread -- I only like MECHA CRUSADE for the character-based rules (d20 Modern advanced classes, skills, and feats). IMHO, the mecha rules have been superseded by d20 Mecha Handbook by Guardians of Order.

To my knowledge, MC is the only d20 M related product to offer a cyborg class (though there was a 3rd party product, Digital Burn, that offered cyberware and a few products that offer "spellware.")

So for any real SF goodness, feats and class wise, Polyhedron d20 M mini-games has pretty much been it for d20 Modern until recently.

i totally agree with you. i liked the advanced classes in Mecha Crusade but their mecha construction rules were not my cup of tea.

i just picked up GoO's Mecha d20 this week and it looks great so far. i might even use it to replace Starships of the Galaxy for my Star Wars d20 campaign.
