D20 Wuxia

I was watching Dragon Inn just now and I thought "what a wonderful idea it would be to try and make a WUxia D20 game" who else would agree with me here? Maybe a fan based project for Oriental Adventures?

IF. Personally, any new Asian-flavored d20 product is better than Rokugan d20. Then again, I'm biased. No one is competing against that product in the Asian-genre d20 RPG market.

Actually, I reckon stock D&D is already very wuxia-ish at high levels. Every high-level character worth his/her salt (or at least any high-level character who wants to survive) can fly and teleport. You have immensely powerful people who can plow through hordes of mooks, but meet their match against adversaries whose kung fu (levels) are as good as theirs. The only wart is that people are walking around in +5 full plate and such, when armour is useless in wuxia.

The source may not be very Asian, but look up the Sanguar feat in "African Adventures" from Atlas Games. It is a nice idea for D&D-adventures in a culture that uses little or no armor.

Check out the Quintessential Monk by Mongoose.
It has a lot of the feel of wuxia movies in it. There is discussion of sacred scrolls, secret manuevers, all the staples of wuxia stories.

I flipped through a friend's copy of the QM over the weekend and was impressed, because I have been looking for the best way to do wuxia d20.

There a quite a few weapons detailed within as well, including most of the weapons that Shu Lien wielded against The Green Destiny in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

That said, I would still love to see Dragonfist d20 become a reality.

Been working on a giving Monks the Psi Feats as listed in the SRD I think a monk with some Psi powers like 'Climb the Walls' would be very Wuxia in effect...

Well, it seems that scattered across various d20 games and settings, all things necessary for making your own wuxia campaign are already there - in addition to all the sources already mentioned, have a look at the martial arts feats in Spycraft and the physical adept character class in the Shadowforce Archer worldbook, and you have another vital cornerstone for your wuxia campaign in any era.

Me and a friend of mine spent last evening discussing ideas for Wuxia type gaming in D20 and came up with a few ideas to maybe get it going a good bit.

Everyone plays a monk.

Alright, drop static Armor Class and use the optional defense roll rule.

Armor does damage reduction and can only take so many hits before it breaks.

Hit points for PCs with starting HP equal to Con. Unimportant NPCs have just their Con score in hit points.

Allow Monks to freely multiclass to allow for cool Wuxia like characters.

Flying can be handled with graduated feats: Gliding: after a running leap a character can float for a number of rounds equal to her level plus her jump check with a movement of 20 feet. Limited FLight: A character can fly for a number of rounds equal to her level at her base speed. Improved FLight: A character can fly for a number of hours equal to her level at her base speed with perfect mobility. SHe can fly at double her speed for a number of rounds equal to her Con bonus. All these feats are not fleshed out fully but are close to my idea.

Psionics instead of magic maybe?
