Well actually... check out the www.atlas-games.com stuff on Burning Shaolin. It's a hybrid Feng Shui(the rpg, yes you too can be an old master at furniture arrangement) and d20. There are even brief writeups about how to make d20 a Wuxia-esque game.

There's even a pdf with some preview stuff. I don't have it but the pdf made me want to get it.

I run a pulp d20(the mini game from Polyhedron) and it has been the closest to wuxia as far as action. I don't hold back, and the pc don't either. I allow for over the top John Woo gun fights and the like. I even included a serum of jumping just so one of my players could fight in the air.

But I too want more.

Wuxia in d20

I know that there was an issue of Dragon last year that had a few feats that would allow Wuxia action in d20, including the flight feats.

As far as how to make monks more Wuxia like, I either make Psychic Warriors when I want a Crouching Tiger style character or I try and convince my DM to let me use a class I made up that combines Monk and Psychic Warrior. I don't see psionics as something monks _shouldn't_ have and magic is just fine too.

Dragon 289. Everyone gets to fly at 10th level, and there's a feat to boost your maneuverability class.

For some odd reason, they decided to use psionic feats to emulate wuxia stunts like running along walls, jumping about, etc when they already had a non-psionic class meant for that sort of wacky goodness: the monk. Ah well.

Personally, if you want wuxia schtuff, I would recommend getting the latest Asgard mag (issue 7 as of this date) which has a martial artist class designed by (cough) yours truly. ;) Or you can get it from my D&D page as well; see sig.

If you add in some of the psychic feats into spycraft you might be able to get soemthing fairly cool. (Side note I ditched the monk in my games and added in a unarmed fighter class, basically fighter bab, 3 medium saves(between good and bad in main book) d8 hp 4 skill, decent class skills, bonus feat from spycrafts unarmed combat section on 1,5,9,13,17, modified the damage objects feats a bit so not as extreme.)

Count me in for d20 WuXia. It'll be really cool. We'll get to do writeups for traditional favorites, like "Li of the Flying Knives", "Chu Liu Xiang, the perfumed Swordsman", and of course, the grand daddy of Cantonese Kung Fu masters, "Huang Fei Hong."

Psionic Monks

www.giant.net/~hagen/psimonk.txt is the quick version of the Psionic Monk character class I came up with once. Like I said earlier, Psi Warriors seem to do a great job of mimicing the Wuxia feel, but the monk class can't take Psychic feats straight up and monks don't get enough extra feats really either. Easy way to fix that is to follow Psi Warrior and tone the monk part down a bit

wuxia games

Course, I like to use Big Eyes, Small Mouth. But a d20 version of that great game is in the works, so if you're really stuck on using d20, you could wait for that.

Well, I've been talking with my Studio Mates on this one for a coule of days and we may whip up a nice little Wuxia thingy for all you all because we got some nice ideas flowing like water around here. I think it would be a lot of fun to do and see how it goes.

It'd be fantastic. We did a couple Feng-Shui style sessions awhile back and there are some things we came up with.

1. Characters need to take a lot of damage. The pounding characters in such movies take is unbelievable. For something like this, the HP system fits the paradigm.

2. Characters need to be pretty high level. About 10th is a good starting point.

3. ALL characters need to have access to mobility boosting powers. Recently, I've been developing some Fighting Schools based on FFG's experience-spending system and the one I've been working on does things like increasing mobility in combat and at high levels allows characters to channel chi (as represented by uses of Stunning Fist or Stunning Attack) in order to gain spell like abilities like Spider Climb, Feather Fall, Fly, and the ability to take a partial move as a free action once per round.

d20 Wuxia would be, to say the least, AWESOME!!!!!!

Here are some ideas:

1) DROP ARMOR CLASS. Instead, use Base Defense Bonusses. Either as a Monk's BAB (still get hit on first attack, 50/50 on second, dodge the rest), or as a high Base Save, +2, like in Starwars. Make it the same for all classes.

2) USE PSIONICS. The Psi feats, and many powers, have a very wuxia-like feel. I have come up with a Psionic version of the Monk and Ranger. If anyone wants it, just email me at Jeph88@mindspring.com

3) This is a rough sketch of an idea, but USE AN ACTION/REACTION POINT SYSTEM. Characters have 10+Wis mod+Base Reflex Save Action Points every turn. Taking a Standard actions costs 6 points, a Move Equivalent action costs 5, a Full Round action 11. 5' steps can only be performed 1 a turn, but cost only 1 AP. Any Action Points not spent durring your turn can be used for Reactions. Flat-Footed characters can not React. Reactions may only be made in response to another characters action, and you must make an opposed Initiative check with whoever provoked the reaction to carry out the reaction before it's to late. If you fail, you still lose the AP, but don't get to carry out the action. Reactions includ . . .
--Making Attacks of Opportunity. Spend 4 AP to make an AoO. Clearly, this replaces the 1/round unless you have Combat Reflexes thing.
--Dodging. Spend 4 AP to force an attacker to reroll their attack roll on a successfull attack that they just made. Replaces Partial Defense, Full Defense, Expertise.
--Hopping Back. Spend 4 AP to take a 5' step backwards.
