Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I'm actually going to be able to run this at some point in the future, so I'm excited. My players wanted another Ravenloft game and were fine with using Daggerheart, and several have said that they loved the character options.

Don't know when I'll be able to run it (we have a bunch of games on rotation), but at least I'll have time to make more environments and adversaries and the like.

Well, I might play around with taking the core of Shadowdark and making it into a campaign frame to hit the vibe of dungeon crawling. I was reading through the quick start this morning and the emphasis on "pushing back the dark" is actually an excellent thematic match for DH's mechanics and vibe. It's got lots of abstraction, and we can bring a lot of the classic stuff like Morale and such in...

After seeing the conversion of Fern into a Daggerheart version and Robby’s character, who here thinks that all future CR episodes taking place in Exandria would use DH? Would a DH Exandria setting book make sense? Would you like that kind of support/shift toward DH.

Not sure if it would make sense business wise but I would buy it, lol

So @Aldarc mentioned I should probably ask what Experiences are. They seem extremely abstract/arbitrary to the point of esoteric.

Looking at the SRD, I can get the obvious ones, background, actual skills, but the 'Phrases' just seem open ended and ripe for misunderstanding?

Do you not have the book?

Example Phrases in there are things like:

“Phrases: Catch Me If You Can, Fake It Till You Make It, First Time’s the Charm, Hold the Line, I Won’t Let You Down, I’ll Catch You, I’ve Got Your Back, Knowledge Is Power, Nature’s Friend, Never Again, No One Left Behind, Pick on Someone Your Own Size, The Show Must Go On, This Is Not a Negotiation, Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”

I do, but its away from me. The SRD is on my phone while I'm working. :D

Yes, I understand phrases, what I'm looking for is how you or anyone else navigates what they mean.

"Never Again"

Ok, what does that even do? It tells me literally nothing.

Generally through a conversation between the player and GM. If you are the GM, I recommend helping the player work on crafting their Experiences so you can both understand the intent behind them. While not Daggerheart per se, here is some advice on creating good aspects for Fate. You can easily port some of the advice from this game to Daggerheart.

Yeah, this is where I would probably prefer something more specific that creates backstory: e.g., I'll Never Again Forsake a Comrade or I Swore Never Again to Take a Life.
