Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I'm guessing that at least some of this stuff was in the works ahead of time and maybe they got cut for space reasons.
They've explicitly said as much in a few places.
Except for the Witch, everything is something that's also in 5e.

Hmm. I just thought of this: maybe they are planning on either switching Critical Role to DH, or having a long-term DH stream when they're done with their current one, and need this material for that. That could still be quite a ways in the future, giving them lots of playtest time.
I can't imagine they wouldn't have a long-term live play using Daggerheart. Especially with how well it's selling. There's no better advertising for it than them running the thing on a stream. Whether that's the "main show" or a "secondary show" is basically impossible to know without an announcement.

I'm not sure what's posted on the Void is connected to anything they'd need for their streams. Matt's no stranger to house rules and making up races, classes, etc for his players. And he has zero issue with them using busted homebrew. See Percy from C1, Molly and Beau from C2, and Ashton from C3 as examples. Noticing a pattern? Yeah, it's all Taliesin's fault.

This is the big question. Will they move to DH on Critical Role? I think the decision has to come from what people are saying about the new system, and especially what their existing fanbase has to say about it. My Magic Eight Ball is pointing to "signs point to yes" right now.

Critical Role is too big a franchise to switch on a whim, but I'm excited about the possibility.

With all the people wondering if CR will switch to Daggerheart, I actually feel like hiring Perkins and Crawford means they are NOT going to take such a big risk. In which case, we'll probably see both a 5E and a DH show being offered.

I just hope the DH show shares flagship status with the 5E game, and isnt hidden behind Beacon.

I'm hoping Matt and company take some time to familiarize themselves with the system before doing a longterm game. I think if they are going to switch it should really showcase why they (or anyone else) would choose it over D&D...

I don't know. I could see an argument either way or that it's not connected at all.

I can't imagine they'd make that kind of fumble after what looks like nearly divine levels of luck and good choices for the last decade. The exclusive content is all cream and extras rather than the main draw. Locking their main show behind a paywall would be a massive, massive blunder.
People will get angry if they use D&D 2014, and people will get angry if they use D&D 2024, and other people will get angry if they use Daggerheart. So the best thing they could do what they want because some portion of the fanbase will get upset anyway. They need a shake-up.
Exactly. They're going to lose a chunk of their audience no matter what. It's about balancing the potential loss with any potential gains. The question is: what serves CR the best going forward? To me the answer is obvious. Promote their own game on the main stream. They'll make more money even with a loss of viewers.

I haven't actually watched any CR, and have no particular plans to, so I have no idea what any of those examples are. However, 5e has several boatloads of official and unofficial material and homebrew out, while DH is in its infancy and so has almost none. To my thinking, if they have players who want to play something other than what's in the book, they might as well make it official material.

I’m not sure why DH dropped Cleric / Paladin from their classes when almost the rest are direct D&D fare - but perhaps it’s to leave the religious connotations you want to bring in more open. None of the Frames are thst explicit about divinity apart from the one with the almost animistic small gods.
When I read the Seraph class, my first instinct was that they had collapsed the cleric because the new framework eliminated the need for a class whose principal focus was on healing.

It feels that healing in combat just isn’t as important in the system.

Yeah, comparatively there’s effectively nothing as yet. But not literally nothing. There’s already a few Kickstarters and all kinds of homebrew, has been since the launch of the original playtest. The game’s a month old. It’ll have more 3PP support in no time.

Sure, why not? I was more commenting on it needing to be playtested widely before it gets to the CR table. Matt has no problem letting his player use busted stuff.
