Damage types from DDM

I love the idea of renaming Sonic to Thunder...
I dont know...Thunder the Hedgehog doesnt have quite the same ring to it. ;)

I'm not quite sure how I feel about 'Thunder' damage. It seems a bit...wierd to me, but it could just be because I'm used to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if necrotic was actually "the new level drain".

FWIW 'Worlds and Monsters' mentions that necrotic energy from the Shadowfell is what animates undead, which may support my theory.

Thunder is always sound. Without exception.
Only in the new 4E...
When I looked at this list the first thing I thought was "Why do they need two electricity damages?"
Games like Final Fantasy use the name Thunder for electricity damage.

There have been video game character's who have used sonic attacks.

Guile from street fighter used a sonic boom which was an energy wave caused by sound.

Mortal Kombat's Siren used a sonic attack that was quite useful in a combo.

I like hte idea of sonic staying sonic and not being associated with thunder. Though the sonic obviously needs some reworking.

And I don't really see a point in having electricity/lightning damage, after all lightnings cause fire. (and to go even further, acids burn)
Yeah, and Ice burns too.
And also, Love burns.
Maybe there should be only Fire damage? or Burning damage? :p

Right, but fire and electricity attack the body differently. Yes, electricity can burn you, but an electrical jolt can also damage your heart or your brain or your muscles without burning your skin. It travels through you, and through other conductor.

Rubber gloves will prevent being zapped by electricity, but fire and acid will eat right through them.

Insulated gloves will allow you to pluck burning charcoal from a fire, but they won't stop a electical charge or prevent acid from melting them.

A neutralizing mucus membrane can prevent acid from melting something, but fire will consume it and lightning pass right through it.

Creatures that are immune to one should not necessarily be immune to another.

Oh, and I like the idea of thunder damage. "Sonic" damage was kind of an anachronism. While I know D&D isn't trying to recreate any particular time period, describing something as "sonic" just feels out of place. "Thunder" however sounds fine.

However, the first D&D player over 12 years old who asks what the difference between thunder damage and lightning damage gets a swift kick in their dice bag. ;)

Necrotic damage... that sounds a lot more lethal and sinister than "negative energy" which sounds clinical and nerdy.
