I tried to hold out. I really did.
I didn't like The Phantom Menace. I thought Attack of the Clones was only marginally better. I swore to myself that I wouldn't get sucked in by the hype. I swore that while yes, I would see Revenge of the Sith, I would go in with catfish-low expectations, and no excitement whatsoever.
I promised myself.
Apparently, I lied.
I don't know what it was. Maybe it was the commercials. Maybe it was the PG-13 rating. Maybe it was the slow but steady number of glowing advanced reviews, including one from Kevin Smith. Maybe it's what I've heard of Williams' new score. Maybe it's just the fact that inside this overweight 31-year-old body, an 8-year-old rabid Star Wars fan still struggles to get out.
But there it is. I am excited. My expectations are rising. And damn it all, May 19th can't get here soon enough.
So I'm just curious. I know I wasn't the only one determined to set the bar low for this movie. Am I the only one who's failed, even though I know better?
(And on a different note, the Imperial March is still a truly impressive piece of music. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, or how deeply I'm involved in it. That sucker comes on in the background, as part of a TV commercial or something, and my attention is riveted.)
