Well, different keys are also weighted differently. That supposedly makes you type faster.

Ok...

And for those of us who are self-taught typists (that is, don't always use the "right" fingers on a given key) the variable-weighting would be weird. I often use my pinky on the CTRL key, for instance, which they have at the heaviest weight.

Does your job include typing a lot? I wouldn't go for it otherwise. $10/year for a keyboard probably isn't worth it for most people.
