Dawnforge Characters

I am surprised no one commented (good or bad) about my tiefling paladin idea...I need to look at the book and see how outrageous this may look, but from a RP perspective I think the challenge would be cool.

a tiefling paladin is quite possible - but he would be an outlaw in his own homeland! His low strength and constitution might be an issue, but the charisma bonus should prove valuable: maybe a rapier-wielding paladin with weapon finesse?

I should be getting my book on Thursday! :D The only thing I was thinking is that tieflings are inherently evil, but I could be way off base. Come to think of it, why would they have the race available to players if they are evil? Guess I'll need to wait until I get the book before making any generalizations...

Hal, if it's not too outrageous that does sound like it would be a very challenging character to role-play.

Cool ideas Cardinal---keep up the ideas, it is getting me pumped to start the new campaign...want to blow off gameday  .

Ok, maybe not...

Well, it may just end up being you, Morpheus and me anyway (apart from what the store has planned). Morpheus said that he is going to bring his campaign materials just in case...either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Lesse; in the Dawnforge game that I'm gearing up to run, I've got a group of 4:
A Dawn Elf Fighter(the weirdest elven fighter ever, at least in one of my games; never seen an elf fight with flail and shield and wear breastplate armor!).
A Night Elf Swashbuckler/Sorcerer(CN charming rogue type; I like to think of Captain Jack Sparrow).
A Lowlander Ranger(your classic Hero of Destiny type; found a magical sword, has to leave his village to keep his friends safe from the danger that will follow him).
And a Halfling Bard(the reluctant hero; he'd rather stay at home and play his guitar[which he also uses as a weapon], but SOMEBODY's gotta chronicle this adventure!).

Pretty cool; I like having the non-standard parties, y'know? They're gonna have to use their heads more than if they had a wizard for artillery and a disciple or a shaper as a healer; I foresee a lot of money dropped on Barrels of healing potions and Heal Sticks for the Bard and the Ranger, and I've never heard of an Elven Tank before, so it should be interesting.

Other than that, I love the classic fantasy archetypes for Dawnforge; the gruff dwarf, the haughty elf, the young knight full of wonderment at the wide world around him, the wizened sage, etc.

I think they are inherently evl so that will be part of the challenge if I do that.

As for Game Day, yes I figured we do some stuff at the store then head back to my pad and play with Dawnforge a bit, I can't wait till Saturday!

another idea for that tiefling paladin: If I were to GM this, I'd allow (or even force ;)) you to take one level of sorcerer first.

Then - without any kind of summoning ritual - one day your imp familiar would appear: appalled at your way of life, bound to you by unknown forces, determined to show you the wisdom of the "traditional values" of your family...

I only have one character made for my game so far, a Saltblood Rogue that is estranged from his family.

I am in the process of trying to take a few of the cool elements from Arcana Unearthed and put them in Dawnforge, as some of you already know from the other thread. I am going to ask this here as I did there because different people read different threads, but if the Mage Blade, Witch, and Runethane are put into dawnforge, what PHB spells would you give them on their own specific lists, ranging from level 0 to level 6?

Right now I have the Mohj being a special race created from the ancient dragons of Tamerland that use to rule in years past and the Mohj are the unquestioned leaders of the Lizardfolk, favored class I'm debating between Runethane or Shaper. I have put the Litorians as another race that have dwelled amongst the humans over the last few centuries in the region of Anderland, having arrived there about the same time as the older barbarian human tribes (from where I haven't figured out yet, and if anyone wants to help with that by all means I'll accept any help I can get). The Verrik come from the Azran Desert, an ancient foe of the Yuan-ti of Zangala..over the centuries they have had many battles, the last battle ending a half century ago and ending in a treaty of sorts..because of the battles the Verrik have spread to Ambria and, like the Minotaurs, have no real home to call their own right now.

Giants, Sibeccai, and Faen I am still working on...and the faen tranformation to becoming sprytes, I am still trying to figure how I am going to do that.

The Cardinal said:
Well, like I said: they were all stranded in the absolutely cheapest inn in all of Riversend - with no job, no money, and no idea how to get through the coming winter. Then those peasants witnessed the group fight half-a-dozen drunk and raging highlander barbarians...
Why they ended up in Riversend in the first place? Because all of them had a good reason to leave home: the night elf wanted to escape a civil war and a cult that he didn't like, the tiefling wizard had "difficulties" with his teacher, the sorceress fled from an arranged marriage "to strengthen the bloodline", the lowlander just wanted to flee from life as a farmer and develop his own strange gifts, the yuan-ti just fled from her low-caste fate in the homeland, the ogre didn't want to end his life as a retainer of the giants, the gnome was just curious about all those unknown lands out there in the west - and the minotaur never had a home anyway...

BTW: one of the PCs is a doppleganger - but no other player knows about this... ;)

Thanks! I appreciate you 'lettting us in' on some of the things going on in your campaign.

Oh, and which one is the doppleganger??? We won't tell! ;)

blackshirt5-I like the 'non-standardness' in your group! :) Sounds like it will be an interesting (and fun) game.

Just curious-what level are the characters starting out at?

Hope the game goes well and great fun is had by all!
