DayWatch

Anyone else see this? The sequel to NightWatch, a blockbuster from Russia. Just came out on DVD today.

I mostly liked NightWatch, but I found DayWatch to be confusing and ultimately rather pointless, other than the opening scene and the bit with the RX-8. And I kept yelling at the character to quit being so stupid. Which upsets my cats. And the characters never listen, either.

The first movie had a few problems, but I liked it a lot.
So "lot" in fact that I bought the books (which took forever to translate) and found them good and entertaining reads.

I looked forward to Day Watch, and eventually it appeared in German cinemas. So I went out and saw it. I was disappointed. I still don't see it as a total failure, but the movie was too confusing - especially the end.
The books usually had a background plot the reader and the first person narrator didn't get until the end, but the movies seem to have a plot that nobody ever gets.

I read somewhere that Russian Movies are supposed to be "too artsy", which is why they get rarely translated/dubbed and exported? Maybe Day Watch was a bit of a fallback to this time?

I still think it was worth seeing, but I probably wouldn't go out and _buy_ the DVD - maybe rent them.

You have perfectly described how I feel about this movie.

I had such high expectations, but apart from a couple of nice scenes and visuals it wasn't up to snuff, so to speak.

Do you need to watch nightwatch to understand daywatch?
I suggest watching Night Watch, but I am not convinced that it will help you understand Day Watch. :) (I understood a lot of the movie, but the end becomes to bizarre, and neither the books nor the movie helped at all)
