This doesn't sound like D&D-Next to me, sounds more like another retro clone. Retro clones are fine , some people want to play the same old game forever, good for them.
WotC has all but said we should expect retro-clone-like rules, either as a module, or as the core, stripped-down 5E experience. Heck, a lot of what's been officially announced about 5E so far sounds amazingly similar to Castles & Crusades.

And retroclones aren't about playing the same game forever -- it's not like it's hard to find a copy of the Basic rules, or anything -- it's about recreating the feel of an older version of the game (often by bringing along key game systems) but adding modern innovations where appropriate. (It's not a coincidence that so many of them have a unified task resolution system, for instance, or things like ascending AC.)

Goodman Games has already given me the game that I want and I trust them to do right by the game. WotC 'might' have a game out later this year, but I have very little faith that they will produce the game that I want to play. And, even if they do, I trust that the powers that be at the company will eventually screw it all up. So, I follow what's going on with DDN for no other reason than the fact that WotC and DDN will be so big that they will have a major impact on the RPG hobby industry, which means they could accidentally have an impact on the games that I do play. Unfortunately, I don't think WotC has earned the right to have such a big influence over the industry of the hobby I love.

I'm really glad that you've found a game that you really like.

However, coming to the 5e forum to pour scorn on WotC isn't very productive or condusive to decent discussion, so this thread goes 'clunk'.
