DDi CB & Windows 7

Zephrin the Lost

First Post
Hey all,

So I have two PC's running windows 7 and the CB won't work on either one. The pop up window opens, there's a few exchanges between the browser & the site, then nothing. The silverlight countdown never begins.

I've cleared cookies and I've reinstalled silverlight, no go so far. It goes a little deeper in that I can't open the WoTC live help page - some thing, it just tries to load forever. AND none of this will load when I run windows virtual PC!

Any thoughts?

For the record, I've had no issues connected to either my work network or my home wi-fi connection. I can use the CB in Chrome (my primary browser), IE 8, Firefox, and Safari. And I can run it with Windows Firewall up or down.

I don't know what to tell you, Zephrin. All I can vouch for is that it's not an inherent Windows 7 issue. =/

Win7 32 bit or 64 bit? Running IE 32 bit or 64 bit? There are a fair number of possible combinations. For the record, I have no trouble (well, apart from the usual) running it on any of 3 Win7 - 32 bit PCs, in either IE or Firefox.

Does it work in other browsers?

Are you using a router?

Is this a home network?

No go in other browers. I am using a router, and it is a home network. I just logged onto my neighbor's wifi to see if that made a difference. Nope.

It was working in Chrome, and only chrome. I recently uninstalled Norton 360 and installed Miscrosoft security essentials; that may have killed it but I can't see why, and the desktop is brand new and had security essentials from the start. The CB loaded twice for that and now won't anymore.

I'll try wotc customer service when i have time to sit on hold for a while.

Thanks for all the replies! I feel kind of special that I'm the only one having this issue. Not a good kind of special, sadly.

My guess would be that one of the security packages is blocking the launch of the Silverlight app then. Try uninstalling Security Essentials, also, then reboot and see if it'll launch. I have to admit that I have no experience with Security Essentials, but past experience with other programmes tells me that frequently "disabling" the application doesn't turn off all settings.

If that doesn't do it then I would suggest uninstalling Silverlight, rebooting, and reinstalling it also.

*EDIT* I've also seen, with previous versions of Norton security apps, that some settings seem to hang around after removal, though the recent ones have been better.
