Ettin Spirit-Talker: (looks at the MM) "Equipment: 2 clubs."

Rakshasa Assassin: (looks at the MM) Hmm... those hands aren't backwards...

Ogres (looks at the MM) Hmm... what are 3.5e ogres doing here?

Draegloth Favored One: hey, it's "vampire Mr. Burns" from one of those Treehouse of Horror specials!

Kuyutha Exarch of Bahamut: and dragonborn *still* can't get flight...

Iron Dragon Prowler
Quickling Runner
Hobgoblin Warcaster
Skull Lord
Concord Illithid
Shadow Flayer
Drow Demonbinder (I have the one from gen con in purple and I think two would rock)
Kuyutha, Exarch of Bahamut
Dragonborn Paladin of Bahamut

all look cool to me, but I admit I have no flayers and have only been collecting for a year...

What I've seen of the Demonweb set so far makes it one of my favorite and most anticipated sets. Almost all the figures I've seen are monsters that I'm using now in my games and need more of.

I love all the mind flayers, I think the ogres look great, I've been wanting a Rakshasa Assassin for a while (personal favorite). Plus, there's good-looking dragons too.

I think the choices and selections of monsters and PC types is good. I think all of the sets have had a good mix of types of figures. However, the pictures I've seen of the Demonweb releases so far just looks to me as if they are continuing this trend of more and more uninspiring and rudimentary paint jobs. The quality of the painting has been going down in the last few sets, to the point where it's back to, or even worse than, some of the original sets.

In order to make them look as good as I think they should, I have to do some touch-up painting on them. The problem with this is, especially when it comes to adding highlights to the very poorly painted faces, the faces already have fairly thick paint on them, which leaves any extra paint to add highlights covering up the actual physical features of the face. It makes the paint too thick for the sculpted facial definition and features to come through.

I don't think that this is exclusive to just DDM minis. The Star Wars minis have been like this for the last few releases also. I think WoTC has very intentionally changed how their figures are painted. IMO, selection and sculpts are still really good, but the quality of the painting has really been going down hill.

I agree, el mahdi. That being said, there are still a few good ones in the new sets. Just like there were some really good ones in the first few sets too.

I doubt it was intentional (at least as a direct intent). One thing I heard from my association with WizKids is that quality often takes a dip annually.

I was told that a lot of employees at the factories in China tend to leave around the Chinese New Year (or take long periods of time off). The factories have to hire and train large percentages of their work force and that tends to lead to regular dips in quality.
