DDM: Demon Web figures

I could be wrong, but it looks like there are 24 listed as rare. Isn't that a LOT of rares? That is over 30% of the new figures.
Yes it is a LOT of rares. That is however how DDM does the rarity set up. On the plus side that does drive down the secondary market prices for commons and uncommons at least.

That's how they normally do it, and how they keep the "rare" figures rare. There's also 24 uncommon figures, but you get 3 uncommon figures per box instead of just 1 rare. The remaining 12 figures are common, of which you get 4 per box.

So, if you get 24 "perfect" boxes, where you don't get any duplicate rares between boxes, and the uncommon and commons are evenly distributed, you'll get 1 of each rare, 3 of each uncommon figure and 8 of each common figure.

If you buy by the case, each case of 12 boxes rarely has more than one or two duplicate rare figures, and typically has even distribution of the other figures. Of course, when you get two or more cases, you're likely to start running into duplicates. A lot of people trade with other collectors.

They've tried other distributions before, and this one appears to work the best. It doesn't necessarily seem that way on paper, but the 12 Common slots (as opposed to more) are really nice, as you always get at least 4 of each common per case, so it's easy to get hordes of cheap common monsters.

This is even more important in 4e now that we have minions running around.

Haven't they changed the distribution for 4e? My friend and I have bought a few boosters of the new sets, and we keep just getting the same stuff over and over again. It really sucks. I've also read people complaining in other threads that buying by the case no longer guarantees that you get anywhere near everything in the set ...

No, they have not changed the distribution method. buying a few random boosters of random product almost guarantees you'll get dupes....

You've never been able to collect a full set from a case. If you buy one case, we try to have all 12 rares be different.

If you buy two cases, you should on average have 2 copies of 6 rares, 1 copy of 12 rares, and 0 copies of 6 rares.

Three cases: 3 copies of three rares, 2 copies of 9 rares, 1 copy of 9 rares, and 0 copies of 3 rares.

As for comments on "this miniature should be common, uncommon, or rare" -- anything with clear plastic must be uncommon or rare (that's why the stirge is uncommon), complicated multipiece miniatures such as dragons need to be rare, etc.

Obviously, I'm working on getting quality as high as possible, but things do move slowly. (I was hired in Jan of this year to work on the miniature line, so this was the first set I had any real influence on the paint jobs; doing the best I can, but there are a ton of economical factors including the price of the dollar, shipping costs, manufacturing costs in a booming chinese market, etc.)

I am always open to suggestions for miniatures to produce.

Peter is a great person. I trust him with this line, completely. I've played DDM with him, watched him judge events, and seen his personal production values. He is serious when he is asking for constructive advice....

There are many archtypes that could be revisited. A classic dual-wielding human ranger hasn't been seen since Harbinger's Human Wanderer (one of the best minis of the entire line.

If it'd be possible to have heavy armor/light armor/unarmored versions of all the core races, it'd be awesome.

If I could design some, it'd be even more awesome. It's not like I lack experience (having just done 128 different PCs for Fiery Dragon).

My friend has been buying random boosters for years now and he says he won't be getting any more of the new sets because the variation is not as great as it used to be.

Thanks for replying, Peter. However, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I wasn't saying that we could once get a full set from one case but rather that we could get most of a set from one, which, according to some people, is no longer true. I cannot afford to buy minis by the case, so I'm just going by what I've picked up around the forums. If it's wrong, so be it. But at the very least, people aside from myself, including my longtime mini collector friend, feel like the distribution has changed.

That's useful to know.

I think the biggest one right now is common Dragonborn, or at a minimum uncommon Dragonborn.
I'll second that.

I'd also like to see some of the new-look genasi get some minis. I'm guessing we'll probably be getting some anyway, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

More duergar! There are only three duergar minis in the whole line, and one of them is large (unless you count the recent dwarf warlord mini -- it's got grey skin and a white beard, so I wonder if it's really a duergar in disguise and a very bad disguise at that ...).

Also - I'd love it if you guys would do more minis of the BBEGs in the adventures you put out. 3.5's Red Hand of Doom was chock full of bad guys that would've made for awesome minis (Ghostlord, anyone?). I was very pleased to find that the Deathpriest of Orcus matches Kalarel from H1. Any chance we'll get more like that? How about a winged demonic gnoll to go with the BBEG in H2?

Finally - can we go back to having drow who wear something other than black? The older drow figs had nice paint jobs with actual silvery armor or colored clothing. The more recent drow have all just been clad in black, often with the only painted parts being their hair, eyes, and weapons.

Sorry. That got a lot longer than I intended it to be.
