In case you're unaware, DDO is Dungeons & Dragons Online, the D&D MMORPG coming out soon. You can check it out at www.ddo.com.

Looky what I got in e-mail today.

Hi,
I hope this finds you well today. The D&D Online beta will be commencing in a few days. Atari is not handling the beta, but we can get you a VIP invite which will assure you a place in the beta.
The ETA for your induction into the beta is late October. Please email me at ****** the following information and in the format provided below:

Full Name
Email Address

I will compile this information and forward it to my counterpart at Turbine.
You should receive a VIP
invite sometime this month. Thanks very much.

Best Regards,

:D

PS: I got this because I had originally been selected to be in the Dragonshard beta but they ran out of keys. I wrote to the guy running it and he offered to guarantee me a spot in any future beta of my choosing. Guess which one I chose? ;)

All I can say is I hope they play WoW for awhile and learn the lessons it has to give as it is currently just under half a billion dollars a year gross.

All I can say is that I wish I had a stable internet connection, my wireless is pretty wonky. Most likely because my adapter is at the end of the range of the router. :( Otherwise, I'd be playing. I'll be buying two copies of the software though, one for collectible value, and the other to eventually play.

From reading the FAQ I'm not sure I'd like DDO. Some of the rule changes (like the empowering of spellcasters) may indeed be necessary for the game, but it makes it less like tabletop D&D.

Also, Eberron wouldn't be my setting of choice.

Nor mine either. We use either Forgotten Realms or homebrew settings.

Two big problems I have with DDO, and this is just from what little I know, not even getting to smaller details:

All dungeons are instanced. Bleh. What's the point of it being MMO if it's all instanced?

Eberron. Double bleh. Seeing the wonders of Waterdeep or Myth Drannor from a first person viewpoint or something like that might have encouraged me to get it, just for being able to walk around the breadth of the Realms from a first person perspective, but Eberron just enhances the "no thanks" factor.

Well, that's good to hear, because for the last 15 months I've been trying to help two of my company's manufacturing plants install Demand Driven Operations as their method for running plant operations. So, when I read the title of this thread, my first thought was "@#%& no! I don't wanna talk about DDO. If I wanted to talk about DDO, I'd be at work!" :D

Huh? What mean "instanced"?
