Defining "fanboy"

What is wrong with being 11 in your heart and really loving something. What is wrong with choosing to ignore the negative side of something and look instead to the positive?
What a nicely done post.

While I find some danger in deluding oneself to the realities of anything, I really like the overall point of your post.

Well intended.

I agree, well spoken Eosin the Red.

One thing, I don't think writing a letter to an actor, writer, or producer is stalking. I imagine that people in the television business actually really enjoy getting those (positive) letters. It's very personal, and I imagine that for all the crap and praise they get on the internet, it seems a lot less hollow knowing you took the time to write out what you have to say and make sure they read it.

And Eric, does this mean I can't be your fanboy anymore? :( *tear*

those definitions all suck for fanboy.
and fanboys and fangirls are very different creatures.
fangirl implies slash fanfic or lines like "spikey goodness" :D
for whatever reason fangirls are more sexually-charged than fanboys.

a fanboy is a SPECIFIC geek.

unfortunately, all of my definitions were based on the way the term is actually used, as a self or other description. I appriciate you contributing ANOTHER descriptive defintion, but trying to be perscriptive about it is pretty silly. (and being insulting at the same time is just odd) Whether you like it or not, 'fanboy' is used in all of the circumstances I listed, and therefore they are descriptive definitions of the word.

I know plenty of sexually charged fanboys, don't delude yourself. :p And women are cabable of fitting any of the other definitions, so fangirl works just fine as a gender opposite term to fanboy. It may have additional connotatiosn in certain circumstances, I'll give you that, but I've seen the terms used interchangably often enough that it didn't seem worth ignoring as part of the definition.

No, this applies quite nicely to the Batman movies. Keaton and Burton should of never left.

:D

Well, I did say that there were exceptions, though personally I felt that Val Kilmer made the best Batman. Keaton was too old and Clooney just looked silly as the Dark Knight.

of the ladies. i think i'd have .....ed Kim Basinger. but i'm a little older. so

although, Uma would've done in a pinch.

alicia is too young for me.

Why do people who paint their bodies for football teams call Vampire people freaks?... Why do people who think GRRM is worthless think that people who like GRRM will find their opinion to have any merit? Why do baseball geeks put down Gamers? Why do gamers call LARP'rs names? Why do gamers make fun of fanboys?

Here, here! I have the same debates with some of my bosses at work - the same folk who are NASCAR fans who go to Daytona every year, cooler in the trunk and Earnhardt memorial T-shirts on. :)

On a side note, thank you Eosin for doing what you do (working in the medical profession). The older I get the healthier respect I have for doctors, nurses, and EMT's.

It is human nature to divide the world into "Them" and "Us". It is likewise human nature to look down on and deride anyone who is not part of the "Us" tribe.

It is possible to override basic human nature through use of the human intellect, but that requires effort, and frequently foresight. It is also part of human nature to be shortsighted and lazy...
