Deities and Demigods ~ Thank You God!

Wow, and here I was actually thinking about using the D&Dmg book to bestow some powers upon the players in my game... There are uses for stats for gods. For instance, what if I run a game where all the characters are gods? If the gods don't have stats, I suppose that would make character creation real easy, huh?

This would be a valid argument if the rules didn't SUCK so much. "God level play"? unplayable I say.

Example: Moradin is the most powerfull god (rank wise) of the D&D pantheon (why? I don't know), with the sole exception of Corellon larethian who is his equal. Moradin has the anhiliating strike ability, wich allows him to obliterate anything of a lower divine rank than him. The DC (fort) to avoid being utterly destroyed is 91. Most gods can' t make that save, even with an always 20 rule.

So we have a rule set that makes the dwarf god able to destroy the rest of the pantheon on a whim. "Nice".

(if it wasn't for the amazing, amazing art, I would be hopping mad for having bought this book).

:D I figured as much. Actually Flex, I had something a little not nicer to say...but then stopped (had been studying WWAAAY too much!) so I changed it and decided to put that in instead. :) I like you way to much to offend you just for your tastes. Hope you can forgive me for my temporary laspe in judgement.

Well, according to the DNDFAQ, a roll of 20 is always a success for saving throws, thus greater gawds always pass saves regardless of the DC.

Why do Corellon and Moradin have higher Divine Rank? I would imagine because they are actual creator-type deities, who are actually at the head of their own distinct pantheons. Not to mention the fact that they have influence on multiple prime worlds, and that is something that the rest of the "DND Pantheon" claim really.

Other than those points, I agree with you. It is kinda crazy for him to auto-kill anything less than a greater deity.

Hi there! :)

Deities & Demigods may as well have been called Fluff & Ephemera for it's usefulness relative to a Monster Manual 2, which is a book the system actually needs,

So you haven't done any roleplaying in 3rd Ed. yet because you need Monster Manual 2 before you begin - is that what you're saying!?

Or is the term need just a tad misleading!?

rather than just a book for dreaming about D&D by wowing at god stats and pictures.

Far be it from anyone to use their imagination ('dream') in a roleplaying game.

I thought WotC was aiming for stuff for gamers rather than those who like dreaming about games that will never be. Between Manual of the Planes, the Epic Level Handbook and Deities & Demigods, WotC's plans for the game truly seem to be divorced from catering for your average campaign,

WotC are presenting interesting options that can take campaigns in new directions - what do you think D20 Call of Cthulhu is; or D20 Modern; or divine characters in Deities & Demigods!

which needs god stats as often as a fish needs a parachute.

Are you honestly telling me you have never fought the Were-Manta Paratroopers that fall from an inverted branch of the river Styx!?

Hi jasamcarl! :)

Yes, but the theory would be those who would find some use for these book REALLY want them, so in the aggregate, Wotc would find greater profitability in these niche products; of course that is only one possibility.

Regardless, i trust Wizards to act in their own best interest and have better access to the facts to do so than (self) interested board cruisers who have a minimal grasp on the market....

Good to have you back mate! :D

Hi Scott mate! :)

That's a rather "interesting" statement. I would imagine there will be plenty of gamers that use the god's stats. There are plenty of gamers that will use both god's stats and the rules forthcoming in the ELH.

There are at least 150 people (I know of; from these or other boards) that will directly use them.

Grazzt said:
Hell, I can think of one right now that will use the DDG stats ASAP, right Krusty?

With a modicum of tweaking of course. ;)

...then I only need the ELH and our Uber-campaign is back in business baby! :D

And if you are one of those "barmy Primes" lucky enough to reside in the Planescape cosmology, you might just be a headen' for ye Blood War.

You seem rather obsessed with Planescape.

Are you projecting?
