Deities and Demigods ~ Thank You God!

Seriously, though. I thought that with the Planescape-heavy nature of the MotP, you guys would back off from complaining about deities having stats.

"You guys"?

I'm not complaining about deities having stats.

And as for the endless whining of old schoolers...Where?

Endless whining? Where did I say that? I didn't.

Finally, we get a book that displays nothing but reverence for 1st Edition material, and you guys are griping once again.

Nothing but reverence? 1e had the balls to put all deities in the same cosmology, and to not try to rub serial numbers off of pantheons. (Not that I am objecting loudly to this, but I sure don't think it displays "reverence" to 1e.)

Never been so disappointed with any book in my life as with the dreadful 2nd Ed. Legends & Lore.

Dido, Krusty. In my opinion, 3rd Ed. D&Dg is the true successor to 1st Ed. D&Dg, in more than just its name.

As to it being too "stat-heavy", I would have purchased the book even if it were like its predecessor...with minimal flavor/descriptive text and full stats!

"The balls"!? If TSR and WotC were/are "brave" enough to stat deities from real world pantheons, what sort of "balls" are requisite to lump them into a single cosmology?

Mr. Wyatt himself even stated that 3rd Ed. D&Dg draws much more heavily, in form and substance, from the 1st Ed. book than the pitiful 2nd Edition Legends and Lore.

Jeez, Psion, what exactly did they name this book!?

Would it surprise you if I said I have it? :)

And I was hoping that it would do some of that sort of thing. But too little. TQC is one "Q" book that could have afforded to be lots more like its 2e predescessor.

Of course, review forthcoming. :)

Looking forward to it. I'll hopefully have my review of Deathright up in a day or so, after I get a thorough reading of the book. So far my initial feeling is, it's okay but not my cup of tea.

In truth, however, I had hoped that the MotP would not include such overtly Planescape concepts as the Blood War (the inclusion of which actually ruined my desire to run a cosmology strictly based on official rules). Finally, we get a book that displays nothing but reverence for 1st Edition material, and you guys are griping once again.

Oh well. As the saying goes, life's a bitch and then you die.

Ah, but I am going to take a page from U_K's book and make the worshippers, spheres of influence, etc. the whole point of the struggle. I want to make the characters actual gods, not god-like, with all the benefits and responsiblities that come along with it.

Now that I have finally shown someone 'the light' I can die a happy man! :D

The secret (if indeed there is such a thing?) to roleplaying gods lies not in their strengths, but in their weaknesses. The key is the dichotomy of the divine with the mundane.

Without this relationship one or the other become irrelevant. If you run a mortal campaign where the gods are 'beyond comprehension' then they are fundamentally irrelevant.

Similarly if you run a divine campaign where the mortals are irrelevant then you are not really playing 'gods' just powerful characters.

...then you die and go to Hell *cough*...Baator...*cough*.

And if you are one of those "barmy Primes" lucky enough to reside in the Planescape cosmology, you might just be a headen' for ye Blood War.

What was so bad about it? At the time, it covered a lot of useful information. I've found myself referring back to it quite frequently for various things.

Don't have it [On Hallowed Ground], perhaps I will have a look on ebay. What was so good about it!?

Basically, what's good about are the appendices in the which cover every god from every world and pantheon and list them out by domain, and sphere of influence. Need of god of magic? Here's the list. Need a god of trickery? Here's the list. Handy, especially for outer planar adventures.

I think Faiths and Pantheons (almost upon us) could be a worthy update - if not successor.

Is this a WoTC product? Is it supposed to be like Faiths and Avatars? I'll buy it if it's for the Forgotten Realm's gods, but not for the crappy Grayhawk gods.

Gods are a pain in the butt to make. I'm working on typing up a god in D&Dg format. This is a simple Divine Rank 1 god. He is an NPC in my game who became a demi god through his actions and great ability. I'm to sure how well I'm doing with it. I've got him defined, just need his equipment and then all the flavor text to go.

What was the Attribute formula someone posted? I know it wasn't exact, but it was close enough. I'm not sure if his attriburtes are good ebnough or too good. So far, the skills seem low. Otherwise, I think it's doing okay.
