Deities & Demigods continued

Hi Lakkett! :)

Possibly true. However, on page 32 it says that "A salient divine ability functions normally within an antimagic field...". Since Alter Reality is a salient divine ability, and since Alter Reality is responsible for the enhancement bonus and the permanence of the enhancement bonus, you'd think that it would still function normally. Hence, a deity would be able to keep it's increased stats even in antimagic.

That can't be right.

Do the Divine Salient Abilities not differentiate between Extraordinary and Supernatural Abilities?

Obviously Alter Reality is supernatural, whereas something like Divine Rage is extraordinary!

For anyone running (or planning to run) deities out there - do not give them carte blanche to ignore Anti-magic! Trust me! ;)

If it's true then:

Hercules got the Shaft!!!

He has a 20 INT and a 21 WIS. Obviously one of the exceptions. :D

From what I can discern (even though I don't yet have the book) the Hercules description just doesn't make sense on a number of points when reverse engineered.

Try doing his BAB or Damage!?

Hercules BAB (as listed): +5 greatclub +67/+62/+57/+52

Breakdown: 20 (Bbn) + 10 (Ftr) + 5 (club) + 1 (Weapon Focus) + 4 (Divine Weapon Focus) + 5 (Divine rank) + 22 (Strength) = +67

It works out correctly. Notice that even though he is a Bbn 20 /Ftr 20, his BAB after 20th is only +10. It slows to every other levels (total levels) over 20.

Hercules: Str 55, Dex 25, Con 28, INt 20, Wis 21, Cha 24

total: 173

base: 144 (24 x 6)
bonus: 5 (divine rank) + 10 (5 per class level)
total: 159

So, he seems to be short by 14 points (assuming that each deity is 24 (base) + 21 (bonus) + ability bonus (for classes). Unless there is another method they use, perhaps by deity ranking (not just divine rank). Afterall, Hercules is listed as a demigod. Perhaps they don't give them as many bonus points as the others?

Got D&DG last night -- VERY cool -- the reason I haven't been on the boards until now is that I've been busy staying up till the wee hours crunching numbers in my DL god conversion project! :D

BTW, Ares, like most of the Olympian pantheon, is size Large -- that affects his stats (+8 Str, -2 Dex, +4 Con)...

I thought about that, but it still doesn't add up correctly.

Ares: Str 48, Dex 26, Con 32, Int 25, Wis 25, Cha 29
Divine Rank: 15

185 - 15 (DR) - 21 (base) - 10 (for 40 levels) = 139

+8 (Str) -2 (Dex) +4 (Con) is +10. Add that to 139 and it puts him at 149. Now he is 5 points over rather than 5 points under.

I must have had bad information, try Hercules damage as well!?

Craig- here ya go:

listed: +5 greatclub 1d10+51

breakdown: +22 (Str) + 2 (Weapon Specialization) + 5 (divine weapon specialization) + 5 (great club) + 11 (1/2 Str if used two-handed; he is Medium-size and greatclub is large, so he has to use it two-handed) = +45

Not sure where the other +6 comes from, though he does have the Divine Might feat (allows him to add his Cha bonus to damage rolls by spending a turning/rebuke attempt). This would add an additional +7 to his damage and put it +1 over. So, I am not sure where they got the other +6.

Interesting note about Hercules, his communcation is listed as 15 miles which is incorrect. It is supposed to be 1 miler per rank and he is rank 5. So, there is one typo.

I was going to point out hercules as a god with below 24 stats, but someone beat me to it.

Anyway...

I'm having trouble with these rules... the "always get 20" is just plain bad... it removes all randmoness, and a god that has a skill of one higher than the other (say, bluff vs sense motive) will ALWAYS succeed, even though the other god is nearly as good.

The worse is anhiliating strike. St-cuthbert can destroy any god with lower ranks than him with it, especialy if he starts wielding his mace 2 handed, smithing, divine might and using feat of strenght. I figure the DC would be on average 136 (!!!).
