Scott - just a big thanks for participating on the boards. It really makes a difference to me when I can see the folk at Wizards are listening.
Seconded. Thirded. Fourthed. This can't be emphasized enough, Scott. Thanks. :)

Also how much would you be willing to pay for a pack of 6 double sided 27" X 36" poster maps (like in Fantastic Locations)?

I'd be willing to pay an arm and a leg if made those as urban geomorphs!!!

(I sure hope you're still looking at this thread!) Having a product that would facilitate running strett battles in fantstic cities would be awesome and would fill a void in the market.

1) Bought or used a Fantastic Locations product?
all of them

2) If you did how did you use it? A) Roleplaying B) Skirmish c) Both
both, more for roleplaying than some might guess, given my involvement in the DDM community. They were amazing for running my oldest son's bday party. They really work well for RP if you are willing to play around with them and alter what you are doing.

3) If you used it for RPG play did you use it beyond the encounters it came with?
Never used teh encounters they came with.

4) if you exclusively RP with it would it bother you to havethe skirmish symbols on it?
The other side of the coin, I'd be bothered if they didn't come with the symbols, as then I can only use them from RP...

It is a good idea and something we have talked about.

From a production view this would be posible. Adventure design would have a pretty big influence on cost because they need to be able to make the tiles work with the adventure. As long as they could make sure that all the maps in the adventure could be made from the 6 sheets of 2-sided tiles it would work. My big concern would be if they had to make the adventure watered down to work with the tiles.

6 tiles has an MSRP of $9.95 and a 32 page adventure (like Shadows of the Last War) sells for $9.95 so in theroy but (don't hold me to it) we could do this for around $20.

What about adding minis so it played right out of the box?

I'd definitely get this product if it came with just the adventure and dungeon tiles.

If it included minis then whether I bought it or not would depend on what the minis were. I have invested pretty heavily in the D&D minis line over the last 5 or so months. If the minis are new ones that haven't been released as part of the D&D minis line I would definitely get them. If they weren't then I wouldn't want to buy minis that I already had just to get the cool adventure and tiles.

The minis as an optional extra product would be my preference. That way people that want the exact minis for the particular adventure can get that. Those that have already collected most or all of the needed minis via the D&D minis line don't pay for something they don't need. Of course this may not be feasible since it then means that you are creating 2 new products, not 1.

It would be cool to be able to sell a "play out of the box" modules that had the adventure, maps/tiles and minis.

If you do this just show me where to stand in line. I will have my wallet ready ;)

I hear ya loud and clear.

One thing I mentioned in our thursfday morning discussion at D&D Experience was my desire to do more maps. Fantastic Locations are a decent attemp but only seem to appeal to skirmish players. You can use them for RPing but it seems most people don't want to use them. The tiels are more flexible.

I have been trying to bust the map nut but haven't cracked it yet. For the cost od art and printing they just don't sell enough to make it worth the effort but they would be so nice to be able to make for you guys. We have a few ideas and will keep at it.

Scott
Please sell (for very cheap) electronic files of maps.

It might cost some people too much to print them from a copyshop, but others could print them using resources they have available at hand.

Dayum. 30-35 bucks. You just described the basic game but better especially if they were exclusive minis of the new monsters from the adventure or the key BBEG.

1. Never bought a Fantastic Location pack. I've bought 2 sets each of the Dungeon Tiles, though.

2. I don't play skirmish. I don't buy random miniatures.

3. Not applicable

4. It wouldn't bother me, but I doubt I would buy it. I didn't mind the map in Red Hand of Doom (it works for outdoor adventures), but since I have a battlemap, some overhead projector pens, and Dungeon Tiles, I don't think I need miniature sized maps (YMMV).
