Many fond memories. We played it the summer before my best friend in high school moved away, so it was the last campaign with my original gaming group. We had the G/D/Q series that were published as individual modules. Ran them all straight through in sequence, so I may be mis-remembering when or where things were. To me, it was all one big adventure. As I recall, it was our first experience with a mind flayer, an encounter that caused me to hate those $%^ mind-suckers to this very day.

When we did the 3E RttToH conversion, Geoff used the 1E stats for Acererak the first time we met him (in the original ToH). He went down in one round. 50 hp just doesn't cut it against kitted-out 18th level characters in 3E, no matter what powers you have.

Then when we met him the _second_ time, he had his full ELH stats, and was basically killing one of us each round while we were doing nothing to him. Luckily we managed to blow up the macguffin and run for it....

I played this back in my day as a young munchkin. It was just me and the DM, and I had a party of four PCs (I think, my memory is not spectacular about 20+ year old events). We went trooping on in and found one of those places which the DM was supposed to create and add into all the blank places on the map. It was a village of mind flayers. Things didn't really go all that well. The stuff in the module itself wasn't nearly as bad. I don't remember if I ever made it to D2.

I loved this module - I've used it for at least three different groups in the past, and would one day like to use it for my current group. It's so darned re-useable!

I really love this module. I've used it many times. Once, when I was about 13, and had nothing to do on a Saturday, so I ran the pregenerated characters through the adventure all by myself. The thing was, I'd lost my dice at the time, or at least some of them and since I was alone I had no one to borrow new ones from.

So I took our copy of the game of Life out, and used it's 1-10 spinner for a die. To make attack rolls, I would spin it twice and add the results together (I didn't understand the probability shift of a bell curve then). It was great.

As a homage to the pregen characters in this one, I mentioned some of them in Dead Gods--Philotomy Jurament, Fonkin Hoddypeak, and so on.
