PvP Discussion
In an OoC comment in the Kyber's Gate adventure, Selc Silverhand expressed curiosity about PvP in LEW. Erekose13 told him that it had been tried once. Well,
here's the thread, if anyone wants to know what really happened.
Synopsis:
During adventure recruiting in a back room of the Red Dragon Inn, one character felt insulted by a second, and the second felt threatened by the first. They decided to "take it outside". The second character (who was first out the door) was headed to "the beach" to duel honorably (we've still not established that Orussus
has a beach, but never mind that). The first character followed the second and attacked as soon as he exited the tavern door. The watch had already been tipped off by Joe (the RDI bartender), and were on the scene within seconds. The first character had been seriously injured, but not to the point of falling unconscious, and was preparting to retaliate when the watch arrived. A caster with the watch hit them both with a sleep spell.
The combatants came to in a special jail cell, minus gear. By design, the cell was secured by a mechanism that allowed them to leave, but only if they cooperated to work the mechanism. Essentially, they were free to leave as soon as they resolved their differences. The two commenced to non-lethal combat in the cell, after which the first character shook the now-unconscious second character's hand (the source of the insult in the first place was the second character's refusal to shake hands back at the tavern). When the second character regained consciousness, the two worked the mechanism, recovered their gear, and parted ways.
The events of the thread led to the following LEW rule: PvP is only acceptable if both parties agree to it. In addition, dueling is illegal in Orussus. However, that is merely a matter of concealing the duel from the authorities should two or more characters be determined to duke it out.
In my opinion, the LEW rule should be enforced here. PvP should be an option, but available only if all parties are willing.
