If you're rolling the dice on invisible castle, be sure to note the use of the action point in the note field, which is recorded before the roll. If the DM is rolling, just state the use of the action point with the action, such as "Burk the Beautifull will smite evil on the demon, using an action point on his attack roll."

Since you can use it only before you know success, but after the roll, I usually say something like "If I roll less than 15, I'll use an AP." If using invcastle, I add the AP after the roll.
