Hiya. Me and my players are working on making a pounce racial ability for the catfolk race that we've converted over from 3.5, so I thought I'd post what we've got so far here to ask for thoughts.
At the moment the ability is unique to catfolk, and is movement-only. We're also considering creating a combined pounce/attack as a full round action, essentially allowing the maneuver to be used as a charge capable of going over other creatures' heads
Pounce said:As a move action Catfolk can make an acrobatics check to move in a straight line through (over) occupied spaces and difficult terrain without provoking attacks of opportunity or suffering move penalties for difficult terrain. The DC is 5 times the number of spaces the Catfolk intends to move, and a failed check means the catfolk stumbles and does not pounce. Note that a catfolk must move a minimum of 10ft during a pounce, and provokes attacks of opportunity from enemies that can reach if the pounce fails and the catfolk stumbles.
At the GM's discretion a specific situation may be easier or harder to successfully pounce in. For example jumping over only small or lower sized creatures, low to the ground obstacle, or unoccupied difficult terrain would lower the DC, whereas jumping over large or higher sized creatures, high obstacles, or while starting the pounce from difficult terrain would increase the DC. Additionally, some situations may exist where pouncing automatically fails (such as attempting to leap over a enemy's head when that enemy stands just barely shorter than the ceiling) or may not be attempted at all (if the catfolk is stuck in place for any reason).
A catfolk can take a 5-foot step and then pounce, but not the reverse. They may not attack in the same round if they choose to both step and pounce.
