We all know what a McGuffin is, right?

The ironic thing about the story is that he was charged as a result of finding a McGuffin... her missing shoe.

Side note, this thread is in the wrong forem.

Seems to be in bad taste to trivialise a murder for a cheap joke, but that's probably just me.

life is funny sometimes. We could all hold back because everybody an their uncle could be offended at something we find funny, but then nobody could ever say anything funny.

The folks on the jury and in the court room have a business to be serious about this matter. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't be.

Whether we laugh or not at the humor of the name does not impact that trial and its outcome.

Gallows Humor is a "your mileage will vary" sort of thing. Maybe, this thread was allowed to exist because not many people reported this thread as being offensive.

I do think there is a difference between having a joke about something uncle may not like, and having an internet thread that (imo) devalues life.
I make many bad taste jokes that I know others wouldn't find funny. I dont make them in front of the victims family.

The fact that it is an Internet thread and not just a joke among friends changes it from mildy amusing to offensive for me.

Internet threads are cached for longer than life.

This thread is in the top 5 google results for mcguffin murder trial. You are effectively making a joke that the victim's family will see.

Again, this is my opinion, and I'm aware your millage will vary

Unfortunately, this thread is trending on Google for several reasons:

1) Look at the thread title. Five words which could be used as search limiters appear through out this thread. The more times those words are used in this thread the higher we rank. Unsure what those words are? Look in the above post and you will see three of them.
2) This thread is linked to one of the primary news stories on the topic. (Thus, Google deems it relevant)
3) This thread is alive. Spiders get excited when a page is constantly updated and is new compared to every other page on the same topic.
4) The more activity that is on the parent website (in regards to updates), the more "relevant" this page is.
5) If someone "+1'ed" this thread on Google...
