I don't know. Its seems that Halaster has taken a lot personally. My experiences with Traveller is that he's a pretty good guy. Plus Joe Browning of expeditious Retreat and his wife has been nothing but super cool to me and my daughter, so I can only assume Joe had an exceptionally bad day when he made that very out of character post.

Papersand Paychecks has been nothing but very professional, as I think he proves he is very good at with reading that exchange.

Several people in those threads definitely need to take a step back and take several deep breathes, but most of those people I know are good people.

Those threads definitely don't reflect well on several people that I know are better than that.

I'm sure if I have ever looked back over the years of posts I have made I would find a few (hopefully just a few) of which I would not be proud of myself for.

I hope my linking was not misconstrued, not to pick out your post Treebore just last before I started to slowly with many interruptios type this reply.

It wasn't intended to show the flames but the possibility that if there was an organized effort to post on ENWorld, it may have been organized in these "secret" messageboards (hence I edited out the flames but included the link to show I'm not making it up). The one thing that caught my eye was the bunker buddy thing. I'd seen it used as an accusation of organized behind the scenes agreements to coordinate posts to flame, ignore, or generally drive off a poster. I'd always thought the existance of such a group was pure fiction, regardless of its motives.


I personally don't really read too much into Halaster and PaperandPaychecks going at it, as there seems to be a history there. From what I can see they both are perfectly willing to give and take it from each other.

I might point out that your gossiping is cute.

When the great Enworld boycottt was still in effect, it was done because a large group of your members were renowned for general nastiness across the net. Some were even banned from websites preemptively, they were so rude and nasty.

As soon as that general sentiment stopped, folks started trickling over here.

And I understand your concern; this website has an excellent track record of referring to Dragonsfoot, Knights & Knaves Alehouse, The Grognard's Tavern, AD&D Campaigns, The Delver's Dungeon, and others with such loving words.

I've seen that here as well, but it is from a minority. Most posters here are at least tolerant, and by most I would say over 95% with my experiences.

In fact, even when I was encouraging people to try out Castles and Crusades they only got hostile with me when they thought I was saying 3E sucked. When I clarified that I was OK with 3E , etc... I was ignored, left alone, and several even "heard the call" and checked out C&C for themselves.

Which, BTW, was much better treatment than I saw of C&C and OSRIC over on Dragonsfoot.
So you guys definitely do not have any room to be casting stones at ENWorld. Nor do those of you who also post on Knights and Knaves. The one good thing about K&K is they seemed to learn their lesson from their last bout of intolerance and were making an effort to be more open minded.

To be fair, I have also gotten that feeling from Dragonsfoot this last year. You guys all seem to be making a collective effort to be more open and less judgemental.

So don't let old bitterness come back up and sabotage you.

Keep moving forward, don't take any backwards steps. It will severely damage the successful efforts you have made up until now.

Most of us are full grown adults, its far past time we act like it and quit letting the "boards" be an excuse to regress to childhood.

Honestly, the only time I see those sites get the shifty eye at ENworld is when a large volume of suspect threads (that I think Psion correctly identifies as thinly veiled trolls) suddenly appears out of the blue and the initiators are affilaited with some of those sites.

In short, there would probably be a lot more love for some of those sites at ENworld if their members didn't make a habit of frequently popping over to troll for flames (or have "good-natured fun" as you seem to be fond of saying).

I'm not saying that all of the old-school fans who post here do that -- as I've noted elsewhere, there are quite a few who don't, though there are also a significant number who do.

Uh, OSRIC has recieved nothing but rave reviews from the active cummunity at DF. C&C has it's own C&C Society, and the production team just released a C&C module that everyone was complimenting at the website. Any dissent you find from this is the exception, not the norm

Not tryin' to kick snot all over you, but in the last year of my DF membership, I haven't noticed any of this behavior you're mentioning, unless it was very tongue in cheek. We're a pretty mild crowd. K&K is a rules-intensive forum, and that's laid out on the table as soon as the page is pulled up, as well as being devoted to Gygax; I'm not part of the 'Gygax is God' crowd, but when I go to K&K or any forum with a certain theme, I'm not shocked when deviation from the norm is frowned upon. If ENWorld were a pure d20 site, I'd respect that. But folks' heads have started spinning here just because I mention I prefer AD&D to d20; I have not said that I dislike d20 in a year, at least. Any hint at that was a joke, as I've stated before that for genres other than fantasy, horror, and western, (with western slowly fading out of that triumvirate) d20 is may go to system. I'd like to see combat sped up, but that's about it.

I think you need to re-read my post. I said for the last year you guys have been good. I've been posting all over the DF boards with no problems.

I think in the last year I have only seen two or three posters who have even tried to pick a fight, with OSRIC, for it being posted in the wrong forum, or some such.

The only problems we have had with C&C is one or two DF posters came into our forum and trying to troll. We basically laughed them out of our forums by complementing their trolling abilities and telling them some pointers for improving their trolling attempts.

Its been months since anyone has done anything I have thought was even questionable.

So I am just saying don't get irritated enough to take the wrong tone in this thread, and shoot yourself in the foot. I like you guys over on DF. You, DungeonDelver, Rizak, etc... make very enjoyable posts. So just keep that practice over here.

Don't let anyone bait you into the behavior that they claim you have. Be like Papersand Paychecks and insist on being civil. I think we should all make a concerted effort to be that way. I think that PapersandPaychecks has shown that "heated debates" can be fairly entertaining, and still maintain civility.
