Disarm and TWF/ambi?

in tossing around ideas for my next character, a bunch of Qs came to mind:

1> if a character fights with one weapon, can they make a disarm attempt with their free hand?
2> is this an off hand attack? (i.e. within the TWF boundries ... or otherwise)
3> what if that's the character's only attack action for the round? (what sort of bonuses/penaties apply?)
4> how does ambi and/or TWF affect any of this
5> would weapon finesse affect a disarm opposed roll?

seems to me that i may need to take the ambi feat so that i can make disarm attempts with my free hand without penalties. just looking for oppinions, or better yet, rules that i've overlooked/misinterpreted.

thanks in advance

1. Sure
2. Yes
3. No TWF penalties
4. Decreases the penalties of attacking with a weapon while disarming with a free hand
5. It would let you use your Dex bonus instead of Str bonus on the disarm attempts (assuming you means Weapon Finesse (unarmed strike))

thanks CRG,

for # 3, am i correct in assuming that the -4 off hand penalty would apply if the character didn't have the ambi feat?
