D&D 5E Disintegrate Vs. Druid

The problem with how some posters are processing these game elements is that you're allowing Disintegrate's effect section to happen before damage is even resolved.

Well Wizards of the Coast does publish the game now, so I suppose it only makee sense for them to try and put in some first in/last out Magic the Gathering timing malarky into DnD....

That kind of stuff was introduced in 4th edition with immediate interrupt / reaction abilities. But yeah 4e redefined many things and although 5e didn't keep it all, it did keep some things.

Yep, WOTC has been giving out SO MUCH guidance in terms of rules questions via twitter, the monthly articles, the errata, etc.. that they decided to create a website dedicated to storing and recording that guidance and info! Not only that, but anyone can just send a tweet to the lead devs and get it answered. That kind of access is unprecedented! They even nominated a lead dev to be THE GUY to answer questions from the public at large on twitter.

Anyway the more maxperson posts the more it's obvious how out of touch this person is. Making sweeping comments like "people don't use twitter or the internet to get rulings." wat?... the internet has never been more accessible than it is today. You have a device in your pocket that you can use to quickly google any rule question you have. You have entire forums and message boards dedicated to 5th edition. This is just pure nonsense from maxperson. And yeah he can laugh at my posts all he wants because that's all he can do now. The RAW and RAI have been explained. He can keep saying he's right all he wants, at this point I don't think anyone would agree with his houserule..

At least I'm glad to see that there's people who aren't out of touch. Pleasure meetings you gents and ladies :)

Wow. You're..............just amazing. Do you have any more lies to make up about me? I never once said people don't use the internet for rulings and you know it.

I frown upon personal attacks. Use actual arguments if you want to have a discussion, but please leave what ever opinion you have about the people you are discussing with, at home.

It's not a personal attack and it wasn't intended as such. He's been posting things that don't make sense over the last couple of days and he's been called on it by multiple people. Saying he's out of touch with the subject of this discussion isn't a personal attack, it's a verifiable fact. There's no need to white knight into the conversation at this point.

Saying that he's out of touch is not an argument, and it does not further the discussion in any meaningful way. I'm not here to play the role of white knight. I'm interested in discussion, not in calling someone out-of-touch. If his posts don't make sense, address the nonsensical content in his posts, and ruthlessly rip it to shreds in a polite way that promotes further discussion.

Actually it is an argument for people reading to understand that what he's presenting as facts aren't actually facts. I mean I can say it in a more round-about way if you want?

"What maxperson is presenting as facts aren't facts because of x,y,z (I did this in the earlier post on this thread)." However, it's much more simple to say he's out of touch at this point. The discussion won't move forward because it's 1 person saying everyone else posting is wrong while not doing anything to move the discussion forward himself. I've presented both RAW and RAI, others have as well. We've done our part. If me calling someone out of touch bothers you, then just don't reply to it or move to the next thread. You're presumably an adult, act like one.

If you were trying to come across as reasonable here, you're not doing a very good job.

Attack the arguments, not the person. If you feel that you've said all that needs to be said about his opinion, then perhaps you are the one who should move along?

I guess all that is left is how to fix it. And the more I think about it, the druid form should just stack temporary hit points on top. So if you switch to a bear to determine the difference in hit points add, or if it is smaller creature, then the hit points remain the same. You also have to make sure the shape shifting is limited to a short rest cycle or long rest. Once you switch back any temporary hit points are lost.

Wild Shape deliberately does not use the term "temporary hitpoints" to describe what happens to the Druid, because they are a different game mechanic, that may have unintended interactions with other game mechanics. I think Wild Shape as it is works just fine. But maybe they should have simply called it a "second health pool" instead. The description of Disintegrate should also have been more specific, to at least resolve any rule disputes with the mechanics of the core classes.

This is one of the reasons why I'm favor of clear rules, rather than vague fluff text. D&D 3.5 probably overdid it, by sometimes covering an entire page in examples, just to cover every angle of the rules. But I'd rather have rules that are too detailed, than rules that open up a huge discussion, like this thread perfectly shows.
