Divine caster with no god

In any case, Persistant Time Stops wouldn't be especially welcome by fellow players. Can you imagine the table-talk?

Seriously: "Why would this be a good idea?"

Do deity-less clerics work better thematically at Epic levels? You could have a campaign where the player becomes the god.

Another example of a deity less cleric would be a druid using cleric mechanics. (some campaigns have nature gods as the source of druid power, others don't).

The Sun and Luck. :D

Concept: Fighting the undead is always a matter of luck, those who get munched and turned into shambling horrors themselves, those few who survive when whole cities fall. However those who study the path of blazing slayers make their own luck and take the fight to the walking dead, not just pushing them back but destroying them utterly.

God: Halfling sun god. A pleasant fellow who warms the countryside, helps gardens grow, and just makes life more fun. The sun symbol is therefore recognized as a good luck charm among halfling warrenfolk.

Any combination of domains can be applied to concepts or gods with the appropriate description.

A twist on this:

Deities are the patrons of clerics, and they also have worshipers. Is it not possible that a cleric could derive his/her power from no specific deity, and at the same time worship a specific god?

This occured to me when I was creating a human cleric of Ehlonna, only to discover that the "typical worshipers" included certain races, and the rules specify that, in such a case, a cleric must be of one of those races in order to take the god as patron. Ehlonna lists several non-human races as typical worshipers, so she can't have human clerics. My DM was willing to house rule it, but then it seemed to me that my character could just go the "no deity--choose two domains" route, and still by a "nontypical" worshiper of Ehlonna (even if technically his power was not derived from her).

My apologies (not too many though).

A friend of mine had Spell and Time domains. Therefore he could prepare Any spell and thus could use it to prepare time stops that were persistent by the time he was...15th level.

Ummm...how? Anyspell, and Greater Anyspell, don't let you cast a 9th level spell with it (max 6th level spell). And if you meant limited wish, your cleric could already do that with miricle. What is it about the Spell domain that let your friend use time stops, much less persistent time stops?

It does seem you can use persistent metamagic on time stop, the trickery domain grants it as the level 9 domain spell.

Why you would want to persistent it though, eludes me. The rest of the party is going to be pissed, and everyone is invulnerable in the time stop's area of effect anyway.

Unless you are trying to do something crazy, like take up resisdence in the lich queen's castle, this isnt very helpful.

Re: Persistant Time Stop

Besides having all the time in the world (essetially) to buff, you could also do some crazy terrain set-ups, given the right spells: Digging pits, creating walls, casting permanent illusions, etc.

Here's the real question: After 15 hours of such monkey-business, could you rest 8 hours and then regain your spells? ;)
