D&D General DM with too High Expectations - Advice?

They liked Perception Check as I recall. Mostly because it’s very funny.
Yes. Its failing in my view is that they aren't very productive.

I'm actually very easy to please as a player and viewer. As I've mentioned before, the ideal game for me is funny and the group gets stuff done. I can overlook a lot of flaws if it hits those criteria. I'll play a one-shot or watch the odd stream if it's one or the other. I'll stick with it loyally if it's both. But for reasons I do not fully understand, that combination is exceedingly hard to find.

I think productivity is harder to find than humor in D&D groups. Both can be difficult to achieve because the humor has a tendency to be a distraction from the game content rather than an integrated part of it, but when woven together well, it’s excellent. The Adventure Zone hits a nice balance for me (after they get through the first arc and start getting a hang of the rules, anyway), but I imagine it might still be a little meandering for your taste.

I've listened to some of it (not recently) and had some chuckles, but mostly it seemed to me like a couple of scenes strung together where the goal is to interact with that session's quirky NPC and that's about it. What I had listened to, anyway.

They definitely do adventuring stuff too, but yeah, I figured the balance leaned too much towards social interactions without dynamic conflict for your preferences. The latest campaign has also leaned into that more than the first two did, which has made me less interested.

Well, my wife tried an Adult Conversation with the DM today and got a "my way or the highway" style response. I'm now encouraging her to just walk away. It's sad that a DM lets his game devolve into this state.
While it's tough to break up a group, if that's what he really wants then I'd wish him the best in finding a group that wants to do that.

Please send us the link to this stream when it gets off the ground, if you can. I want to see this masterpiece.
I've considered the idea of a D&D stream since at least, oh, y'know, a good 5 years ago after listening to a 4E podcast, so as someone who knows bits and pieces about this whole thing...

We do need to know once this goes down because I suspect it'll be of the 'terribly' variety.
