This is the reason the average consumer should shop for expensive items at average retailers (Best Buy, Circuit City, Gateway, etc.) or with big, well-supported companies (Dell, etc.). Shopping at places like Overstock and Ebay and Scopes is for those who know what they're doing, know what they're buying, and are willing to deal with hassle for a good deal.

I've never had any problems with ebay purchases. Even with buying computer components. The people I've bought from have been prompt and friendly, even though I usually pay thru paypal so I can challenge the purchase if necessary as most usually comes from my credit card.... So far, I haven't had to do that. I don't know anything about scopes and overstock to say one thing or another about either of them.... A friend of mine has had good dealings with Dell with his computer he'd bought. Even when it was a "stupid" thing like the modem getting jostled loose during transit....

If you don't want your mom paying the restocking fee request a manager and ask why she is having to pay a restocking fee on a product they messed up on by sending it to her in the first place. They'll probably waive the fee. "Normal" customer service can't do that, it has to be a manager.

Agree with Treebore here. If it was their goof up then you shouldn't have to pay the restocking fee. Contact them (phone number posted in this thread) and try to speak to a manager and *respectfully*, but firmly explain the issue and what happened. Good chance they will waive the restocking fee. (Unless there is something else to the issue that we may not have heard).
