Do We Need any more d20 books?

I saw the thread title and noticed diaglo had posted. Hoping, perhaps, he had finally changed his tune about original D&D, I sallied forth to read his comments on the subject. Imagine my disappointment when, once again, I see he has not yet seen the light. Oh, diaglo. Will you ever learn? Will you ever learn....?

Playing PC ascension and godhood, a system for merchant trading, and perhaps a far realms type book are three areas that could be fleshed out with good material and rules in the d20 system.

I have high hopes for the Immortals Handbook and the upcoming Atlas games one that continues the Crime and punishment series.

Considering that I still have a few books on my *want* list, I think so.

Need is obviously a strong word. No, I don't need any of them. I don't even *need* to play D&D either, but that's all irrelevant.

I'd still like to see more good low magic rules, and something for d20 India - I WILL play a 4-armed, 8 faced elephant headed dude one of these days!

Not only do I need more RPG d20 books. Not only. I also need more shelves to put them upon; a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust they will gather here; a new room for all of these shelves full of d20 books gathering the dust; thus I need a new apartment; so I also need to get much more money, meaning I will have to work more; so I will have less time to read all those books. :heh:

What else to say?

Ah, I know: I need to live much longer to get the time to read all those books, but as many more will be produced in the same time, well, well, well...

Maybe I should play much less, so I can have more time to read all those d20 books? Mmmmh... that sounds reasonnable. A good compromise after all.

You already have The Complete Idiot's Guide to d02 Roleplaying. It's the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS blue box.

If that isn't The Complete Idiot's Guide to d02 Roleplaying, I don't know what is. Unless it's this:

But I can't stop. I love getting new game books. I love browsing my FLGS or Amazon. I love getting a look at the hot new products. I am forever deluded that, yes, I *will* be able to get my group to try Burning Wheel/HeroQuest/GURPS/Tri-Stat/Whatever... so I should keep buying it. I am a RPG publisher's wet dream.

Seriously, I need help.
I have a solution. Get a new hobby. ;) Try . . . underwater basketweaving, or water polo, or even golf. Or how about . . . naw, that's too personal.

Hey, just before I got back into gaming, guitars and recording equipment were basically my hobby. Ergo why I have to laugh when people complain about gaming being too epxensive. *Crappy* guitars are $300. You get a taste for boutique gear, and suddenly everything is $2000 and up.

I spend a truckload on gaming material. Said truckload pales in comparison to what I've spent on music. Thus, I continue to be a complete gaming whore. :)

Sir Elton, these are fine, indeed excellent, introductions to DnD, not d02! Also, where is the definitive version of these rules, the Moldvay edition with the Erol Otus cover?

... Let's put it this way, in game mechanics, are there areas sorely lacking in the d20 mechanic rule set? I think so.

The core rulebooks already have too many rules in them, IMO! The last thing d20 needs right now are more rules. ;)

For any situation: figure out a relevant DC, figure out an appropriate skill or ability score, let the player roll!

We still have no good system for creating gods, especially elevating characters to gods. Heck, I'm still using bits from the Primal order. I'd like for some official product to handle this, but I am looking forward to the Classic Play book by Mongoose.

Speaking of which, this thread has info on a project by one Upper Krust. You can find a link to his project site at the bottom of my sig.
