Do We Need any more d20 books?

Like many others have said, "Need" is probably too strong a word, but there is some desire, as always, especially as I like to be surpirsed. :)

I am looking forward to Green Ronin's Egyptian release (I forget the name right now ... haven't seen The Mummy enough! ;) ).

In pdfs, I have loved the Kaiser's Bazaar series over at RPGNow -- they have been absolutely lovely, and have added great details to my games!

I would be amused if someone took another stab at Lankhmar, in that Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser always felt the "closest" from fantasy literature to actually fitting the D&D mold -- overcrowded city of indeterminate era, with many sewers and hidden passageways, the search for lost treasures, many gods floating about, an actual thieves' guild, wild magics, and even planar/time travel!

And other than that, I shall just watch and see what comes up -- my D20 purchases have necessarily slowed of late (amount of books owned, desires for non-gaming and non-D20 items, etc.), but I am always willing to take a look...

Hey, just before I got back into gaming, guitars and recording equipment were basically my hobby. Ergo why I have to laugh when people complain about gaming being too epxensive. *Crappy* guitars are $300. You get a taste for boutique gear, and suddenly everything is $2000 and up.

I spend a truckload on gaming material. Said truckload pales in comparison to what I've spent on music. Thus, I continue to be a complete gaming whore. :)
Oh well, I tried. Next time, please becareful what you ask for. You might get it. Oh, and thanks. RPG Gaming is less expensive than getting guitars and playing them.

Nope. I'm done.

The only thing that tempts me are adventure modules. Not because I need or strongly want them, I just like using bits and pieces out of modules for my campaign.

I doubt I buy another d20 book until the new edition is released.

Although FVLMINATA d20 could tempt me... ;)

Well, before this topic gets derailed into, "I don't need RPGs, only food, air and shelter to a limited extent."

Let's put it this way, in game mechanics, are there areas sorely lacking in the d20 mechanic rule set? I think so.

I would cover this by saying "no." All of the most important areas are covered (different environments, mass combat systems, etc.) out of the 20 books that may cover mass combat, or water adventures, or what have you, maybe ONE per year actually does something innovative with the subject. I myself don't need any more D&D books specifically because 99.99% of the subjects that come up in our games are already covered.

I don't need adventure books. I write my own stuff, and they are more along the lines of what I want. The stuff that is printed is okay, but the amount of work needed turn a published adventure into a playable adventure doesn't really change all that much if I just do it all myself.

I don't need campaign specific stuff for about a decade or so.

I don't need any more core books from WotC for about two decades.

There's a whole lot of stuff that I don't need. Including new dice sets.
However: reality is that I'm hooked on RPGs and the various by-products, so I will happily keep buying new stuff. At the moment I'm considering jumping on the Eberron wagon. I won't really have time to read any of the books until 2005, or so, but that doesn't matter :). They'll be mine!

I need the Wilderlands Boxed set from Necromancer/Judges Guild so that I've got the maps for all of the wilderlands - apart from that it's all wants not needs.

On the subject of d20 mechanics I think all of the topics D20 can reasonably handle have been covered already. Most of them have even been covered multiple times in different ways. So no, when strictly speaking about d20 mechanics I want nothing more.

What I *NEED* to stop needing and wanting more RPG books is my dream house, which has a large library (think Victorian style wooden furnishings with a large glass dome and bookcases up to the roof, only accessible by ladder in which I can place all RPG books ever created. In that room I need a large comfortable leather lounging seat with a Victorian age style lamp besides it. Thus when I sit there gazing at my collection one of my many books in hand, absently stroking my cat I can feel satisfied that I have finally fulfilled all my RPG gaming wants.

I will never have enough for the same reasons many people won't stop buying; the craving for the scent and feel of a new book, the joy of reading the fluff, the thrill of imagining the use of the crunch and last but not least the elation of looking a beautiful art. How can anyone stop such a maddeningly addictive hobby ;)

I also feel the area of beleivable world generation in SF is a lacking area in d20.
I agree. I'd like to see many new books that present a more hard science fiction RPing experience.

Other things that I think are lacking: an Al Quadim type setting, with all the necessary supporting books, a book on Gypsies, and a classical world setting. I'd like to run a game set in mythological Greece, with Zeus flinging lightening bolts around, big wooden horses filled with soldiers and a minotaur living in a labyrinth.
