Do We Need any more d20 books?

I agree. I'd like to see many new books that present a more hard science fiction RPing experience.

Other things that I think are lacking: an Al Quadim type setting, with all the necessary supporting books, a book on Gypsies, and a classical world setting. I'd like to run a game set in mythological Greece, with Zeus flinging lightening bolts around, big wooden horses filled with soldiers and a minotaur living in a labyrinth.

Gypsies eh? I remember Talislanta had a great sourcebook for a Gypsy like culture. Man, wish I could remember the name of it. Yes, a nomadic style sourcebook would be a great thing.

you can extrapolate much from I6 Raveloft module too.

or the Gord the Rogue books.

I am looking forward to Green Ronin's Egyptian release (I forget the name right now ... haven't seen The Mummy enough! ;) ).

I realize that this may sound heretical, given that this is a d20 fan site, but have you checked out GURPS Egypt? In my experience, GURPS worldbooks are very well written and researched. You could probably get a wealth of information from it, even if you don't like or use the GURPS system.

Cheers,

Well, on Morrus' rant, one of the things I thought about, was do I personally need any more d20 books? I'm not talking about wanting but actual needing.

Yup.

I need some books like the old Capsystem promised when WoTC was first doing RPGs before Magic the Gahtering took over.

We still have no good system for creating gods, especially elevating characters to gods. Heck, I'm still using bits from the Primal order. I'd like for some official product to handle this, but I am looking forward to the Classic Play book by Mongoose.

We have no book on merchants, marketing or economoics. This was supposed to be one of the next books in the Capsystem line after they did a Primal Order sourcebook on the Norse Pantheon, among others.

We have a few books on prisons, but they tend to close over the actual prison construction itself or put them on different planes or magic dead islands.

How about you?

If only Dark Faerie Productions had survived. They had produced an entire book for playing gods and becoming a god. If I remember, it was a five level PrC that allowed a character to grant one domain yada yada.

It was very cool. Chad Corie wrote it, so find him and you may find the book.

Yes, I do need more D20 books. They are one of my main sources of entertainment in and of themselves. I'm a collector. RPG's are the only fiction that I read. I would prefer them to be good quality books though...

But I can't stop. I love getting new game books. I love browsing my FLGS or Amazon. I love getting a look at the hot new products. I am forever deluded that, yes, I *will* be able to get my group to try Burning Wheel/HeroQuest/GURPS/Tri-Stat/Whatever... so I should keep buying it. I am a RPG publisher's wet dream.

Seriously, I need help.

*lol* It's comforting to hear that there is somebody else who has the same problem that I have! Perhaps we should start a "Anonymous RPG Addicts" chapter?!

On a more serious note, I came to think of something else I would like to see published: A tool kit for building vehicles - sea, air, land - for d20 Modern, kind of like the spaceship building rules in RPGObjects "Blood and Space" or in "d20 Future" from WotC. Preferably as simple as the above mentioned rules, but something like the old "Fire, Fusion, and Steel" source book for Traveller could also work.

BTW, thanks Fester! "A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe" has now been added to my wish list at RPGNow.com. :)

Cheers,

Need? No. Definitely not.

Want? In my case, no, but others clearly disagree, and so the steady stream of Complete Splatbooks, etc. will continue.

I would have to agree. I started out in third edition telling myself I would not let myself get sucked into Hasbro's ingenious marketing strategy but eventually it happened all the same. I have far more books than I need in order to play the game and enjoy it. I keep telling myself I need the Wizard's books and a few third party books as a reference library for my world building and various other creative aspirations. Truth be told, half the stuff I have is just another prestige class and just another feat in a pretty new package.

I think I am very rapidly reaching the saturation point and about to come to my senses. The grass isn't always greener in the next big release.

And? Is it a bad thing for more books to be produced? Does it impose on you or others (like diaglo)?

For myself there are many books that I would love to have but financial realities being what they are I cannot afford to get them right now.

I wish people wouldn't get so hung up on the want/need thing.

You mght want to check out Guardians of Order's d20 Mecha book. It's supposedly a rulesset for designing any sort of vehicle.

Anyway, I still want to see a "d20 Designer's Guide" that lays bare all of the math and inner workings of d20. I'd also love to see that "Annotated Player's Handbook" by Skip Williams that FFE cancelled.
