Although technically the full version of the word is the Japanese word for Hermaphroditism and in a broader sense towards the term androgyny. Especially within in Japanese Folk religions/traditions, where certain gods did not have an identifiable gender or said deities gender were considered ambiguous. I think the Lunar Phase also had some kind of effect depending on tales. And then Kabuki plays had a role known as the Onnagata, or the Woman Role, which was basically the Kabuki take on how in English plays, they would have younger males play the role of women due to how light their voices were.

And some elves/ can be like that in their appearance. And with 5E they can further that even further with their gender-fluid nature.
