Do you carry a pocketknife?

OK, I can understand carrying one if you use it for work, but what are the non-work related uses?

I carry one basically allthe time. I get a lot of free knives when I purchase scisors (they are almost always included as a bonus item), and I've basically always had one clipped to my pocket since I was in my late teens.

I use it almost without thought to open packages, cut string, peel fruit etc. I tend to think of it as an "Extra Hand" after all these years.

When my wife and I were first dating, she commented that she liked the flowers growing over the fence of a local Art Gallery's property, so I flicked out my knife and grabbed her a boquet:)

She has commented in the years since that she found this equal parts Charming, Disturbing and hot:) Understandably, I liked that response.

I honestly don't give my knife a lot of consideration anymore, it really is used almost without conscious thought.

I almost always carry a knife of some sort. I used to carry a little $5 lock blade from A&N that I was very attached to-it had black scales with a little silver dragon on 'em. Half-serrated. Actually, I've had I think three of that same knife...I keep messing 'em up or getting them lost/stolen. Now I carry a little lock blade with rubber scales my friend gave me for Christmas last year.

I use 'em to break down boxes and such at work, but mostly I just like having one on me in case I find something I need to cut. Plus, when I'm at home, I like to throw 'em, but don't tell my parents :heh:

Letter and package opening? Cutting out newspaper clippings and flowers? Screwing odd items? Pretty innocuous stuff. To each their own, but to me a big ol' honkin' knife seems like overkill for most of these tasks. When I see a knife attached to a guy's belt the first thing that comes to mind is skinning a deer, which would be a really out-of-place activitity in most of the locales I frequent. I guess I always wonder if carrying a big knife is a macho thing or if there really are day-to-day uses. The swiss arm/utility knife makes more sense to me.

Yup, a swiss army knife just like Macgyver used to carry. Always had one since boy scouts. I have used for everything, open packages, fixing computer, fixing my car, I feel lost with out it. It has tweezers on it, you never realize how much you need tweezers till you always have a set on you.

When I'm out at the cottage, I keep a multi-tool clipped to my belt. It's perfect for the small repairs and what not I'm always doing out there. I don't carry one in the city.

It's also comforting to carry the knife, folded closed, in the palm of my hand if I find myself walking home late at night.

That's the truth. That's one reason I carried knives when I was younger, but now it's more for the usefulness. Heh...Used to be, I was never without at least 3-5 knives, but that was for coolness/intimidation, too. I used to cultivate an unwholesome image, but now I'm terribly embarrased when anyone finds me a bit scary
