When I woke fro my 6 1/2 week medically induced coma, I had a tracheotomy that prevented speech. I tried to use what I thought anyone knew enough to recognize it as it is, the hand alphabet, to try and communicate. None of the nurses knew even what I was using. The one friend who I knew would have understood me had a bad cold and given my precarious health at that time, did not come to visit.

It was very frustrating to not be able to communicate.
