Found this by googling SMS 411. Seems to be big now a day with Synfonic and Googleleading in the results. Apparently, they offer free 411, movies, stocks, weather, sports, and other information through your phone's text messaging service so you don't have to pay the service charges to the greedy phone companies.

The problem is, my thumb is a bit big for taping in the zip code and the businessname. But sticking it to the phone companies seems kinda intersting. would you use afree service like this even if it's a pain in the A!@#$?

Welcome to the boards.

Smells like a spammer to me. This one is at least smart enough to change its text around a little bit, but I could still find it on other boards in other variations, always with the classic single post count. Advertisers hire these subhumanoids to go around and subscribe to boards just so they can post one entry like "Hey guyz - I just found [some useless irrelevant crap they're advertising] - does anybody else think itz k00l? [link] [link]"

Take these for example - eeily similar, ain't it? My guess is that they hit the cell phone forums first (targetted spamming), and now they're branching out:

I'm almost irritated enough to suggest that we boycott synfonic, since they're obviously sponsoring this.

Thanks for giving me some credit. I'm not trying to sell you anything, I'm merely trying to findout people's attitude toward a tradeoff: free service vs pain in the thumb. I do post in multiple forums that merely means that I'm trying to get as wide of a sampling size as possible. Didn't mean to offend you.

I see. So when Pepsi has people go out and conduct the "Pepsi Challenge," they aren't actually trying to sell Pepsi, they're just trying to find out people's attitudes? Just sort of an academic exercise? I would say "nice try," if it weren't pitifully weak.

You are a spammer; that was spam. No amount of semi-clever apologies will change that fact.
I admit that this "stealth advertising" is often effective, but I would like to remind you and your sleazy little cottage industry that when consumers like me find out what you're doing, we get very upset, and not only do we not click the website or buy the junk, we actively grow to despise the vendor and avoid doing business with them at all costs. Is that really worth the risk?
Well, you rolled the dice this time, and your employer lost. No SMS user for you!

Hey, maybe he was just curious. The fact that he actually stuck around might mean he'll be a valuable contributor in the future.

Give the guy a break.
