D&D General Do You Use "D&D" As Code For "RPGs"?

D&D is a brand name that a lot people outside of the hobby know of. They probably won't know Pathfinder ..etc. In the past I used to say "like D&D" if playing something else.

For me it depends

If it’s someone I hardly know, I say board games.

If they ask me what game I’m playing, I say Role playing. If there is a look of confusion, I say D&D.

If their eyes light up when I say role playing, I tell them what game I’m actually playing.

If I’m talking to people who know me, I’ll tell them based on what level of RPG knowledge they have. For my parents, for example, I just say D&D but for most people who know me, I say role playing.

Yeah I usually just say "my game night/friends" and expand if they ask further questions. If they do, im happy to keep going. "RPG night". "Traveller night" etc... I refuse to "band aid" RPGs as D&D and then come here and listen to complaints about why nobody plays anything but D&D.

So, just out of curiosity, how often and under what circumstances or with what subgroups of your social circle do you use "D&D" as code for "RPGs in general" if at all?
If it even comes to stating that I'm playing an RPG and I'm talking about my RPG habit with someone outside the hobby, I just say that "D&D." Otherwise, it usually goes like this:

Me "I'm playing [insert rpg]."
Them "What's that?"
Me "It's a game like D&D."
Them "Oh. Ok. Cool."

What I really think is that if I say something like "Worlds Without Number," they just assume it's some sort of board game or computer game and don't even swerve to find out more.
