Doctor Octopus

Nah, Jim Carey would have been too young to play the Joker, who supposedly murdered Bruce Wayne's parents.

Even if Jack Nicholson had declined the role, I would not believed Jim Carey as the Joker. I'd probably cast Robin Williams, who is the best comedian, quick-witted and really keeps you on your toe.

Personally, I never did like Jim Carey, except for his stint on FOX's In Living Color. Outside of that, I could never laugh at his scenes ... never.

He would have been too young at that time, yes, but they should have waited to do a Batman movie. If he was as old for the Joker when he was for his part as the Riddler, he would have been perfect. That aside, let's not forget that the Joker, who has some twenty years on Batman, has never once been portrayed as an old man in the comics or the animated series (Mask of the Phantasm sort of hints at this, since all his old criminal buddies are old men and he's still very spry).

As for his stuff, what can I say, I tend to laugh at his scenes a lot! He's a great actor, and can do serious roles very well also (as The Truman Show showed us).

Robin Williams is pretty good as a comedian, but he just wouldn't work as the Joker, not at all. He doesn't have the voice for it, furthermore...he just doesn't seem to disappear into his roles the way a good actor should. You never forget that he's Robin Williams and not whoever his character is. He also doesn't blend roles well. He can do comedy, and can even do other things (such as his role as a psycho in Insomnia), but he can't mix them that well. Carey can, which would be perfect for the murderous humor that is the Joker.

I think there may have been a number of top actors of that age range that could have played the Joker, though they would have been decidedly different from Jack. Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Tommy Lee Jones, Eric Begosian, Bruce Dern, Eric Roberts, Mandy Patinkin, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel, Nick Nolte, to name a few.

Let's face it, Jack was overweight for the role but is brilliant enough to make us forget that fact. I'd also venture to say that from the moment it was revealed that he would be playing the role, no one could likely accept anyone else in it. Well, it'd been very tough to accept, anyway. :)

And I think that you are forgetting that the Riddler, Dr. Freeze and Poison Ivy all survived – and that there was strong evidence that Catwoman did as well.

And let's not forget that Lex Luthor is still a threat to all mandkind.

But they did kill off Two-Face, Penguin, the Phantom Zone Kryptionians, and, IIRC, Bane.

And what's up with the falling? Is there some unwritten rule that says that the villain in an action movie must fall to his death? Think about it. The only "villain death" that comes close in number is getting blown up.

And I have no problem with the choice of Doc Ock. When Cameron was originally attached to the project, he wanted Schwarzenegger to play the role. And we all know how well Arnold can play a scientist from his work as Mr. Freeze.

That's not to say Arnold couldn't be in a Spidey film. He'd be great as Rhino or Sandman.

Okay, sometimes not intentionally, but the major villain of the story always dies at the end of the movie, the climactic part.

Such major villain is what defines the superhero. I mean even Sherlock Holmes have Doctor Moriarty to fight time after time.

That's why I just loved X-Men.

Magneto put into a plastic prison, and his mutant followers still out there. Instant potential for future stories, and in my opinion more moral than just killing the bad guys.

Actually, I've heard both Doc Ock & The Lizard will be in the next spidey flick (tentatively titled The Amazing Spider-Man).

No word yet on who'll play Dr. Connors/Lizard.

That was the rumor for sometime, but it was said more recently it would only be Doc Oc.

Which is good- they need to avoid the disasters of the Batman films.

wasn't he also just in Frida? an interesting choice in casting, if that's true

Molina played Diego Rivera in Frida. He was excellent in the role, BTW.

I'm happy with him as Doc Oc, if its true.
